NHL Waiver Wire: Week 3, Pardon My Rantanen

Sven, Mikko and Adrian on the rise

NHL: Colorado Avalanche at Dallas Stars Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

NHL Week 3: Waiver Wire, I will look at a handful of players over 50% owned and under 50% owned to see where there is opportunity to pick up a sleeper or someone who might not produce at the levels you would expect.

Over owned:

-Max Pacioretty (95% owned) LW, Mon, this is not looking like a good year for “Les Habitants” who are struggling to score goals (last in the NHL right now with just 18 goals in 10 games). Max in particular has just 2 goals and 0 assists through 10 games to go with his -6. I think this is a down year for him and would be looking to sell low or offload for many stronger options.

-Ryan Getzlaf (93% owned) C, Ana, he is on my watch list, as his point totals are declining in rapid function he finds himself in a rather lethargic start to the year scoring 4 points in 4 games but they have been ugly. Add in this injury that he’s playing through and I’m not factoring in a strong year for Ryan.

-Torey Krug (80% owned) D, Bos. As Charlie McAvoy steps in with a strong start, Torey appears to be taking the most notably decline. 1 goal and 1 assist to go with his -8 through 7 games, Torey has not looked very good.

Under owned:

-Adrian Kempe (30% owned) C,LW LA, with Carter out due to injury Adrian Kempe appears to be stepping up as one of the most notable goal scorers on the team. 9 points in 5 games, he is hardly the beneficiary of just one strong game. It might be a 2-3 week blip but clearly he is doing well alongside Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli and I’ll ride it while I can.

Mikko Rantanen (25% owned) LW,RW Col, the most talented young Avalanche player is having a good start to the season. 1 goal, 6 assists for 7 points across 9 games AND 5 of them are power play points, Mikko has taken 24 shots and should see some additional goals trickling through soon.

Sven Baertschi (3% owned), LW, Van, It figures that the player who I was supportive of for 3 years would finally produce when I gave up on him. Sven is off to a 8 point pace over his first 10 games and his general comfort looks much better in comparison to previous seasons. Much like Adrian, it could be short lived but I’m incline to believe in this second line of Bo Horvat, Brock Boeser and Sven as a young talented line who will usurp the Sedin/Sedin/Virtanen line soon. (all three: Bo Horvat, Brock Boeser and Sven Baertschi are under 50% owned).

Rightfully on the rise:

Clayton Keller (52% owned) LW, Ari, good to see him getting a sharp spike as he continues to net points for the Coyotes.

Vincent Trochek (51% owned) C, Fla. He only saw his production rise each month until January last year, if he can keep his current pace in any deviation he could be a solid producer through the first half of the season. Just take a look at this power play goal:
