Weekly NHL Forecaster 1/9 - 1/15

Ryan Spooner's stock is on the rise.

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

Below is the average of ‘CORSI For per 60 minutes' on the Home team and Away team to tell me if this is going to be a shot filled matchup. The graph below is sorted from the most offensively oriented games to the least offensively oriented. To put it in a nutshell, if you want goals scored -€” look at the top teams, if you want to see where your goalie will be seeing few shots and have the best opportunity look to the bottom. Ten Notes:
1. Boston Bruins. St. Louis and Nashville are not strong road teams and Philadelphia has been porous letting in goals. Check out Ryan Spooner who is 13% owned and has been playing well lately.

2. Columbus Blue Jackets. Just because they lost one game doesn't stop the momentum here. Three away matchups against three struggling teams. A combined 13-10-16 over their last 10 games. Carolina might put up a battle but the other two should fare easy.

3. Minnesota Wild. Same as above, slightly tougher schedule (Montreal, Chicago and Dallas) but Chicago and Dallas struggle on the road leaving chances for Mikko Koivu (28% owned), Mikael Granlund (58% owned) and Jason Zucker (24% owned) to continue their strong play.

4. Florida Panthers. Three matchups against bottom ten teams in goals allowed capped off with the team whose allowed the fewest. I'll take favorable matchups in 3 out of 4!

5. Buffalo Sabres. I've mentioned how bullish I am on their 2nd half -€” well this is a good week to prove me right. Tampa Bay and Philadelphia are among the 5 worst teams in goals allowed. Carolina is strong on defense but anemiac on offense.

6. Chicago Blackhawks. Washington and Minnesota are two of the toughest defensive teams. I know you have to play Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews but this week might not be pretty.

7. Pittsburgh Penguins. Same situation. Have to play the stars but rough week away vs. Washington and Ottawa.

8. St. Louis Blues. After a great Winter Classic they hit a buzz saw. Boston, then traveling to the west coast for San Jose,  LA and Anaheim, three tough opponents and all of that travel, very unfavorable week here.

9. Los Angeles Kings. At home against three sub average offensive teams, great for their +/-.

10. Detroit Red Wings. Still tough to tell what's going on with them, a mixed week but I think in January they are going to gain some traction.
