Welcome to 2017 fellow Fantasy Golf followers!
First Tournament of 2017
What: SBS Tournament of Champions
When: January 5th - 8th
Where: Kapaula Resort
2015 Winner: Jordan Spieth
I will be mirroring the format for last year. It follows Yahoo's Fantasy Golf where you pick 2 A Golfers, 4 B Golfers and 2 C Golfers. As such I will pick one from A, 2 from B and 1 from C (as if they were your starters) along with one Dark Horse pick. I hope you enjoy!
Course: Plantation Course, Kapuala Resort. Created by Ben Crinshaw this course rides up next to a mountain with fairways that are fairly wide and greens that are inviting, this course does not require a tactful approach and serves well as the 2017 opening to the PGA Tour. This course is the only tour course at par 73. It is one of 7 courses with a 500 plus yard hole.
A Golfer
Patrick Reed. He has a tendence to start and finish the year strong. He finished 2016 with some surgical putting to help win the Ryder Cup and i'm eager to see him step into 2017.
B Golfers
Hideki Matsuyama. I love having him sit in this B group as I will likely use all 10 starts on him during the year. He had a few cold stretches in 2016 but I think he could have a good bounce back year in 2017. He started great play over his last 5 starts.
Justin ThomasHe plays the par 5's well which should play in his favor here. He's still young with a game that's maturing and after a rough patch in late summer of 2016 he's bounced back and been playing very well in his world play lately.
C Golfer
Daniel Berger. He's fun to watch, he finished 17th in the FedEx Cup last year and is currently 34th in the Official World Golf Ranking. He's not the most accurate driver which is just fine here as he doesn't have to be.
Dark Horse
Tony Finau. Given how tall he is coupled with his smooth powerful drive, he has potential to do well here. With that said, he's been on a bit of a cold streak lately which doesn't bode well into the start of the year.
