In this weekly piece I will provide 5 players below 50% owned who should be looked into owning (Breakaways) and 5 players above 50% owned who are struggling (Benders). This doesn't mean you should drop the Benders but maybe they can ride the pine for a week to get their head back in the game. Generally, I am very skittish about dropping anyone above 90% owned unless they have shown 2+ months of really bad play. My rationale for the selections includes some looking through the box scores but a majority of it is with the eye test, watching the games.
5 Breakaways:
Anthony Mantha (LW, Det) 36% owned. He's been electric over the last 30 days, he could be a sleeper long term pick.
Nick Holden (D, NYR) 45% owned. He's getting points, hits, blocked shots and +/-, I think he's worth a look.
Tanner Pearson (RW, LA) 16% owned. 11 points and 6 of those goals in his last 14 games. He's firing off some great snap shots right now.
Kylre Turris (C, Ott) 43% owned. He's getting a bit better and is among the best in Corsi For per 60 Real Time.
Jared Coreau (G, Det) 5% owned. He's 4-0 in his 6 starts. He's probably starting every 4th game but he's making the most of every start right now.
5 Benders:
Jonathan Marchessault (C, Fla) 51% owned. He's probably about right but somethign is definitely not there that was last year with his play.
Sean Monahan (C, Cgy) 71% owned. If you are looking for point production, avoid. If you want hits and faceoffs then he's your guy. .
Mark Giordano (D, Cgy) 95% owned. His point production is low, his hits are low, he's providing Power Play points, that's about it.
James Neal (RW, Nash) 89% owned. I'm not a fan of his game play but he has 2 goals all month. Bench him.
Jordan Eberle (RW, Edm) 89% owned. 3 assists in his last 13 games.
