It’s time to hit the waiver wire. Actually, if you’re reading this, you’re late! Since you missed out on the waiver targets that your punctual league-mates have, no doubt, already added, take a look at these deep waiver adds that might still be available in your league.
QB: Trevor Siemian – Indianapolis @ Denver (-6), Total: 46
Against the Lions, the Colts defense picked up right where they left off last year. The Colts head to Denver this weekend to face a Broncos side coming off of a big opening night win against the Panthers. While Siemian didn’t look great, throwing a couple of picks to only 1 touchdown, he’ll be playing one of the worst defenses in football in Week 2. Even though the Denver defense is amazing, the Colts offense should push them a bit here. This will be a good game for Kubiak to loosen the reins on Siemian and see what the young QB can do.
WR: Eli Rogers – Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh (-3) Total: 48.5
Eli Rogers looked good in the preseason, and that spilled over to the season opener. He chipped in 6 catches on 7 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in the Monday night drumming of Washington. Rogers continues to benefit from Sammie Coates uneven play, cashing in on a touchdown that bounced off of Sammie. Rogers was in the slot all night, clearly locking down the 3rd WR spot for an offense that can score in bunches. The Cincy / Pitt game is always tough to predict, but If I’m desperate at receiver or flex, I’d be ok taking my chances on Rogers in what Vegas predicts as a high scoring affair.
RB: Chris Thompson – Dallas @ Washington (-2.5) Total: 45.5
Matt Jones didn’t look terrible in his debut as the starting running back, but he did end up getting out-snapped by Thompson (33% to 67%). Once the Steelers got out in front, Thompson took over as the back of choice. He looked good as a dump off option for Kirk Cousins and found his way in to the end zone. With Jones underwhelming and Thompson looking good, we may see Thompson on the field a bit more even when Washington isn’t playing catchup.
Mea culpa, I apologize for recommending Rob Kelley last week. He earned an astonishing 0% of the snaps.
TE: Virgil Green - Indianapolis @ Denver (-6), Total: 46
I’m double-dipping this week with the Broncos. Against the Panthers, Green was wide open in the end-zone when Siemian’s pass to him was batted down. With more scoring expected this week against the Colts, I’ll say Green gets in the end zone for the Broncos.
DST: Miami – Miami @ New England (-6.5), Total: 42.5
Miami’s offense looked awful last week against the Seahawks. Their defense, on the other hand, looked sharp. Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake, and Mario Williams are a formidable trio on the D-line, and against the Cardinals, the Patriots had a hard time keeping Jimmy Garoppolo upright. I think we’re going to see a lot of sacks out of this Miami D, and I think we’ll see the Pats come back to earth a bit after their huge win in the desert.
K: Matt Bryant – Atlanta @ Oakland (-5), Total: 49.5
Atlanta continues to struggle in the red zone, but they are moving the ball well. Vegas expects a lot of points so I’ll take a shot on Bryant this week.
