Deutsche Bank Championship: Expert Picks

Pick Day for days....

Eric Sucar-USA TODAY Sports

Deutsche Bank Championship
When: September 2nd -€” 5th

Where: TPC Boston
2015 Winner: Rickie Fowler (-15)

This is the second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs

The format of this will go: I will select golfers based on the Yahoo format. I will select one A golfer, 2 B golfers, 1 C golfer and one dark horse pick, this should space out the selections and provide a vast field to select from for anyone who is in a format where you are limited to 10 starts per year.

TPC Boston -€” Built in 2003 and designed by Arnold Palmer, TPC Boston was later redesigned in 2007 by Gil Hanse. This course has a great mix of old meets new. It features lush mature plant life all around and creates a dynamic navigation. The fairways are more narrow and force some uphill long shots. Parts of it almost mirror a course you would see on the British tour. It will behoove players to stay accurate here.

A:
Jason Day -€” He's getting hot at the right time, 2nd in FedEx rankings, Jason has 7 top ten finishes in his last 10 starts. Add to that his great record of play here: 12th (2015), 7th (2014), 13th (2013). While this is as good as it gets in these tournaments, I feel like the obvious choice has been faltering over the last few tournaments with sure bets landing into the 30-50th in the standings.

B:
Patrick Reed -€” Currently 1st in the FedEx rankings, Patrick had a very strong start, faltered a bit in the middle but now has had top 15 finishes in 5 out of 6 tournaments. He finished 4th at TPC Boston last year.

Henrik Stenson -€” I went back and forth heavily on this one but ultimately had to go with him. His knee is cause for concern especially after withdrawing at The Barclays but he's been playing at the best of his career as of late. In between the withdrawal at US Open and the Barclays he finished 1st (Open Championship), 7th (PGA Championship) and 2nd (Olympics).

C:
Emiliano Grillo -€” Much like the others, a recent string of success after success. He finished in the top 15 in 5 of his last 6 tournaments, he finished every round at Bethpage at or below par (not an easy feat). He is currently 6thin FedEx ranking.

Sleeper Pick:
Sean O'Hair -€”
After three consecutive missed cuts, he finished 22nd and 2nd in his last two tournaments. More importantly his track record here is solid -€” 4th (2015), 74th (2013), 25th (2012), Missed Cut (2010), 8th (2009), Missed Cut (2008), 9th (2007), 15th (2005)

Last tournament results -€” The Barclays Championship (131 total) -€” D. Johnson, Matsuyama, Chappell, Casey and Na
A: 18th place
B: 80th place; 31st place
C: 31st place
Dark Horse: 88th place

YTD Avg: (Average field of 136 people)
A: 36th place
B: 34th place
C: 50th place
Dark Horse: 49th place

Fun factoid about this tournament: Only Vijay Singh has won the Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship in back to back weeks.
