The Main Slate on FanDuel is comprised of 13 games and begins at 7:05pm ET. Let’s hope the weather cooperates a little more than Friday’s did.
Max Scherzer ($11,000) @ Atlanta Braves
Turner Field suppresses left-handed power, which is good because Scherzer has been "roughed up" to the tune of a .225/.305/.418 slash and .311 wOBA by LHH this season. Ha! Scherzer is holding right-handed hitters to a meager .155/.180/.308 slash and .208 wOBA. So yes, this is a good matchup for him. I see no reason not to roster him if you want to feel safe, especially with his elite K-rates of 26.6% against LHH and 38.8% against RHH. Just remember, chasing safety in this game is a fool’s errand.
Chad Kuhl ($6,400) vs. Miami Marlins
Chad Kuhl has been rock solid against RHH (.226 wOBA) but struggled against LHH (.374 wOBA). The sample sizes are small, but Kuhl has pitched well of late and his home park is helpful. That, and the Marlins don’t have a bevy of scary left-handed hitters. The bottom end of that Miami lineup is just woeful. I do not understand why the Marlins are heavy favorites in a road game without Giancarlo Stanton and with converted reliever Tom Koehler starting...but I’ll take the Vegas smokescreen and give Chad Kuhl a whirl today.
There is a game at Coors Field today. Plan accordingly. My plan, per my usual, is to mostly fade the game if I can. If I’m wrong, I’ll see you guys tomorrow. I’m a GPP-only guy so there’s no sense in chasing the bats that everyone else is trying to use. There were 23 runs scored in the HOU/BAL game yesterday—that is exactly the sort of pivot we should be trying to find.
ARI vs. LHP Clayton Richard
Petco Park is a great smokescreen for this lefty-bashing Arizona squad. The Diamondbacks have a .207 team ISO and .350 wOBA against lefties this season, both marks tops in the league. They also have 17 stolen bases against LHP, good for 8th-best in the league. Welington Castillo, Paul Goldschmidt, and Yasmany Tomas are my must-haves from this lineup. After that, you could pay up for Jean Segura or punt with Rickie Weeks. Weeks is cheaper but Segura has arguably more upside at the top of the lineup and with HR/SB potential. It all depends on what other sort of values you and I find today. Right now I’m leaning towards the three-man ARI stack and this four-man stack...
WAS vs. RHP Tyrell Jenkins
I want both sides of the plate for Washington, but I want to make sure I don’t leave off the right-handed hitters, as Jenkins has struggled with them more this season (1.82 HR/9 to RHH). Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth are in for me. I’ll forego Wilson Ramos ($3,500) because I’m good with the cheaper Castillo ($3,000) as my catcher. That allows me to squeeze in Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy.
If I use the above stacks, I’ll need a shortstop as a one-off play. Two shortstops from the same game leap off the page, as both Marcus Semien and Tim Anderson come with great upside in their matchups today. I think Tim Anderson is more likely to hit a home run and steal a base, so he’s the guy for me. That said, if Sale gets chased early, Semien is probably going to be a big part of the reason why, so it won’t hurt me to create another lineup so I can use both of those guys today.
Chad Kuhl, Welington Castillo, Paul Goldschmidt, Daniel Murphy, Anthony Rendon, Tim Anderson, Bryce Harper, Jayson Werth, Yasmany Tomas
