We're hurtling toward productivity as the year gets closer to the middle.
There's a metaphor here somewhere, but I can't find it.
Hold that thought.
Let's get started.
J.J. Barea, DAL, PG ($3900)
Deron Williams is apparently going to play tonight, which isn't great news for Barea. I'm still gonna recommend him though - in case Deron isn't 100%. Barea's usage should get a slight uptick either way tonight. He wasn't great Wednesday (which hurts my soul - since I recommended him), but his upside is still worth the low price. He hasn't been below double digit scoring for 6 games - so he's playing well. I wouldn't expect the moon, but a couple stars might be available. Plug him in as a cheap, low end DFS option.
Nik Stauskas, PHI, SG ($3800)
Stauskas dropped 17 in a meaningless game against the Hawks the other day. It's the most points he's scored in a month & a half, so don't get too excited. But 17 is 17, and $3800 is a pretty great price for any upside you can find. His numbers & minutes are generally trending upward, so there's something here. Just don't expect a beastly performance. Stauskas is another conservative, economical DFS possibility tonight.
Mario Hezonja, ORL, SF ($3600)
Those Super Mario signs are coming. Beware! Mario has dropped double digit scoring in 3 of his last 5 games. Last game, in 20 minutes against OKC, he went off for 16 points on 6/10 shooting - with 4 3PM and 4 AST. He's getting minutes, and doing things with said minutes. I like where the Hezonja story is going, and a bigger breakout could be coming. The 5th overall pick of the 2015 draft has considerable upside, and he's starting to realize it. There's risk here, but I like him tonight for the price.
Amare Stoudamire, MIA, PF ($4400)
It's the early 2000s again, and Amare is making noise. He's got 2 double doubles in his last 3 games, and his price is affordable. He's old (in NBA terms anyway), but don't be ageist when looking for basketball stats. He's a sneaky DFS option tonight, so don't be afraid to plug him in your DFS lineup. (Please note: Steve Nash and Shawn Marion retired, so don't look for them at the other DFS positions.)
Kelly Olynyk, BOS, C ($4900)
Not loving the price, but I couldn't recommend the cheaper guys in good conscience. (See? I care. I told you so.) He's volatile, but he's been consistently scoring in the double digits the last 2 weeks. He gets a few boards, and hits a few 3s (from the C position!) - but he's a risk. Might be worth spending some dough to get an established C tonight, but if that's not really an option, consider Olynyk in your big man slot. He's always capable of a huge game now and then.
So that's 5 guys to get your weekend started with.
Summer is only a few months away.
Start ironing those Speedos.
I'm your wingman, bro.
