I'm a little bit sick today, so you'll have to forgive me if I get a little existential on you.
Today's theme is the notion of change.
All the players in today's article are benefiting from a rotation shift (due to injury), or are in the midst of a career change themselves.
We are born alone. We are going to die alone.
Too morbid for you on Hump Day?
Let's begin.
Isaiah Canaan, PHI, PG ($3500)
A minor injury to T.J. McConnell is giving Canaan a longer leash. He's the most volatile player on this list, but he also has the most upside today. Averaging over 13.0 PPG and 3.0 3PM the last 3 games, Canaan is a pretty reliable low end option - with greater upside. A bump in usage is likely in TJ's absence (if nothing else, TJ will have declining usage today). For the bargain basement price of league minimum, you won't find a more economical PG option today...
Nik Stauskas, PHI, SG ($3500)
In terms of change, Stauskas has been the center of trade talks recently. It's possible he won't be a 76er by the time I publish this article... He dropped 16 four games ago, and consistently plays 20+ MPG on the erratic Sixers. He's as likely to drop 20 as he is to get traded, so this pick is not for the conservative players among you...
Justise Winslow, MIA, SF ($4400)
Justise's price tag has been increasing - particularly with Chris Bosh's key injury. He's a little banged up, but played 40 minutes last game! He's averaging 14.0 PPG, 7.3 REB and 2.0 STL the last 3 games. Lock & load, baby. Winslow is out for Justise! (Let's chalk that pun up to delirium.) But slot Justise Winslow in tonight. You'll be glad you did.
David Lee, DAL, PF ($4100)
This pick is as much an announcement of Lee's new team - as it is a recommendation. He has absolutely no track record on the Mavs - so nobody knows what to expect - but I'm betting on this former double double star to make a statement tonight. He is reportedly making his debut tonight, and you only do that ONCE on a new team. So I'm saying he steps up. Pretty cheap price to find out...
Anderson Varejao, GS, C ($3500)
I am less confident in my Varejao pick, but equally excited! The Warriors are a statman's dream, the only question is usage... While it will be strange to see the floppy-haired Brazilian on a non-LeBron team, we must not fear change. (re: theme) I don't expect much from AV tonight, but I'm gonna recommend him anyway. It's his debut, and if he wants to make friends, he'll show what he can do...
So that's 5 guys who belong in a Samuel Beckett play.
