Weekly NHL Forecaster 1/2 - 1/8

Robby Fabri is starting to heat up.

Below is the average of ‘CORSI For per 60 minutes' on the Home team and Away team to tell me if this is going to be a shot filled matchup. The graph below is sorted from the most offensively oriented games to the least offensively oriented. To put it in a nutshell, if you want goals scored -€” look at the top teams, if you want to see where your goalie will be seeing few shots and have the best opportunity look to the bottom. Updated as of 12/28/2017

Ten Notes:
1. Washington Capitals. CBJ is nearly as great on the road as they are at home. Toronto is actually the better road team. Add in Ottawa's home struggles offensively and Washington has a favorable matchup here.

2. Columbus Blue Jackets. Despite the huge win streak they are facing the #1 and #4 offensively talented road teams in Edmonton and NYR. This week will test their durability and I might be tempted to sit a few of their players in a pinch.

3. Calgary Flames. They face Vancouver who is awful on the road (and at home) and Colorado who has the 2nd fewest home goals, GREAT week for the flames.

4. Pittsburgh Penguins. One game at home vs. Tampa Bay who has allowed the 9th most goals on the road but for only one game it's not worth it if your league locks lineups for the week.

5. New Jersey Devils. They have been porous on defense and their offense will be challenged with a home and away against Washington who is the 5th strongest team in goals against.

6.  Ottawa Senators. Lucky them, they get to face the most offensively talented road team AND the 5th most talented defensive teams in Edmonton and Washington. AVOID.

7. Edmonton Oilers. The best road team gets a 4 game slate on the road! Columbus will be tough but Ottawa, Boston and New Jersey are all sub-average at home. Play them all and maybe pick up a few: Mark Letestu (7% owned) has 5 goals and 6 assists in the last month, Andrej Sekera (13% owned) has 11 points in the last month, and Patrick Maroon and Ryan Nugent Hopkins (both below 25% owned) each have 3 goals in their last month to go with at least 12 PIM's and many Shots on Goal.

8. St. Louis Blues. They have the Winter Classic which could yield anything at Busch Stadium then they face Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars at home (both are poor defensively on the road) not a bad week for Robby Fabbri (17% owned) as he continues his strong presence this year, as well as Patrik Berglund (2% owned) who is having a great bounce back year.

9. Anaheim Ducks. Minnesota is a strong road team but that is more than offset by how bad Arizona and Detroit are, good week for Andrew Cogliano (6% owned) who has 8 points in the last month.

10. Detroit Red Wings. Three road games against three solid home teams (Anaheim, LA and San Jose) not to mention being across nation all week can take it's toll.
