Weekly NHL Forecaster 12/5 - 12/11

Good week for Washington

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Below is the average of ‘CORSI For per 60 minutes' on the Home team and Away team to tell me if this is going to be a shot filled matchup. The graph below is sorted from the most offensively oriented games to the least offensively oriented. To put it in a nutshell, if you want goals scored -€” look at the top teams, if you want to see where your goalie will be seeing few shots and have the best opportunity look to the bottom.

Ten Notes:
1. Washington Capitals. Two words. All In.

2. Ottawa Senators on the surface is enticing but three of the four teams they play on a 4 game home stead are among the top half of the league in fewest goals against, two of them are within the top 8.  With that said, Ottawa has scored at least 2 goals in their last 6 straight games.
3. Chicago Blackhawks - what if I told you that the team with the 7th most goals in the NHL has scored the 7thFEWEST goals on the road. 3 away games this week and I'm not optimistic about their chances with three teams in the top 18 of goals against at home. Additionally the travel can be tough as they go from West Coast to East Coast back to Texas.

4. Anaheim Ducks also have three road games. They rank 19th in goals scored on the road but also rank face two teams (Carolina and San Jose) who struggle at home with allowing goals so their might be some opportunity here for recent hot hands like Rickard Rakell (37% owned) and Jakob Silverberg (51% owned).

5. Philadelphia Flyers. I'm not envious of their week in terms of travel. First they go way down to the tip of Florida and then way up to Edmonton only to go back down to Dallas two days later. Than back home for one game against Detroit. You might see some fatigue with all of this by the end of the week.

6.  St. Louis Blues face  the two toughest teams in terms of goals against on the book ends of the week. In the middle will be two average teams, tread carefully here.

7. Winnipeg Jets face some easier opposition with 4 games with 3 of them being against sub average defensive teams.  Jacob Trouba (23% owned) is starting to heat up.

8. Nashville Predators have three games- all are against teams below average defensively. Viktor Arvidsson continues to fire the most shots on the team on a nightly basis.

9. Colorado Avalanche have 4 home games.  Nashville and Toronto are porous defensively on the road while Boston and Montreal are quite good. This should be a chance of Rookie MIkko Rantanen (7% owned) to show some more skill, he already has 7 points in the last 6 games.

10. Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking out that top spot in Metropolitan division as they face a week against teams who have been average defensively lately  but more importantly are either weak at home vs. road (NYI and Arizona) or have been shorthanded a lot lately against the number one power play team in the NHL.
