Fantasy Hockey Week 16 Team Forecast

Favorable schedules, who has an easy road ahead, who has it tough. 1/18/2015 - 1/24/2015. Bullish week for Petr Mrazek.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Goals Against - a low ranking means they let in lots of goals (Columbus is letting in 3.22 goals against per game, they are ranked #1).

Goals for - the lower the ranking the more the team scores (Dallas is scoring the most goals for per game at 3.39 and is the number 1 ranking).

So you want to face a team with a low GA and a high GF. This is based off this seasons goals for and against, it will be updated as the season progresses to be a larger aggregate of this year.

Favorable Offensive Matchups:
New Jersey Devils - They have 3 games, the first two of which are home against the 2ndand 3rd worst teams in GA (Calgary and Ottawa) they finish the week with Winnipeg who is 6th. All three allowing at least 2.93 goals against. Adam Henrique and Adam Larsson have been scoring a bit lately.
NY Rangers - 3 games this week with the first being at home. The book end games (Vancouver and Ottawa) are 8th and 3rd in goals against allowing at least 2.82 goals per game. The middle game of Carolina is an average opponent defensively. The Derek - Derick Center's (Stephan and Brassard) have been scoring well over the last 2 weeks. Beyond them are points scattered all over - Rick Nash, Ryan McDonagh, Victor Stalberg, Kevin Klein, Kevin Hayes, Keith Yandle and Jesper Fast all in on the action.
NY Islanders - Favorable offenses in the New York region next week. The Islanders have only two games one home and one away against Ottawa and Philadelphia. Brock Nelson has found his scoring touch (5 goals and 2 assists in last 2 weeks) as has Kyle Okposo.

Unfavorable Offensive Matchups:
Anaheim Ducks - Just when they were starting to play well they face Minnesota (25th) 2.37 GAA, Washington (30th) 2.12 GAA and Detroit (18th) 2.48 GAA. A true test of their legitimacy as a bounce back in 2016.
Minnesota Wild - A west coast trip with away games vs. the California teams. This could be a speed bump for Ryan Suter and Zach Parise's recent hot streaks. Anaheim and LA are allowing 2.38 goals against or fewer, San Jose is average.
Chicago Blackhawks - They have bundled a lot of games lately which can be tiring. Add in 3 road games this week including back to back's in Florida and the Blackhawks might be gassed by the end of this week. Both Florida teams are allowing 2.37 goals or fewer. Nashwille and St. Louis on the book ends can be tricky if their solid goaltenders get hot.

Favorable Defensive Matchups:
Detroit Red Wings - Jimmy Howard or Petr Mrazek? Probably Petr. The wings have 3 games, the first and last at home. St. Louis, Buffalo and Anaheim are all scoring less than  2.49 goals per game.
Washington Capitals - the stingiest defense gets an easier week facing Columbus (20th in goals scored), Anaheim and Pittsburgh (both below 2.36 goals per game). The latter two teams have worked towards gaining traction in the new year but this feat will be tough against the best defense.
Calgary Flames - I maintain that the Flames are working towards solidifying goaltending and defensive play. They are my "Ducks" from the defensive front, their play has improved and a week against New Jersey, Columbus and Carolina will help accentuate that.

Unfavorable Defensive Matchups:
Columbus Blue Jackets - They have the inverse of the Washington week. The worst defensive team faces Washington, Calgary and Boston who are 2 of the top 3 offensive teams this year. They might get Sergei Bobrovsky back to face this gauntlet.
Los Angeles Kings - 4 games this week with a 50/50 split home and away. Dallas is the best scoring team and the two away matches vs. Arizona and San Jose showcase two teams scoring 3.05 goals per game. Drew Doughty will have to bring his A-Game.
Montreal Canadiens - Mike Condon will face two teams: Boston (3rd in goals scored) and Toronto (19th in goals scored) but a rival. A true test week for the team.
Vancouver Canucks - Ryan Miller comes back for a road trip on the East coast against two top 4 goal scoring teams (NY Rangers and Boston both scoring 2.88 goals per game and Pittsburgh who is working to improve under Mike Sullivan.
