Week 3 TE Rankings - Standard Leagues

Heath drops some Week 3 tight end knowledge.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Last week I ranked Travis Kelce ahead of Rob Gronkowski...like an idiot. Classic overreaction. Recency bias. Call it what you will. I am complicit.

Not this week, though. Rob Gronkowski is the #1 tight end again, just ahead of Greg Olsen. Olsen awoke from his Week 1 slumber with six catches on a whopping 14 targets last week. He did not score but totaled 70 yards and should be a big threat to find the end zone this weekend against the Saints.

Crockett Gillmore annihilated the Oakland Raiders defense last week, which makes Gary Barnidge still not interesting. Sorry, Gary. Sorry, Browns fans. All three of you.

Jason Witten practiced today (Wednesday) despite his ankle and knee injuries, but it sounds like he will play. Playing and being productive are two different things, however. I could be wrong but this Dallas situation does not seem ripe for fantasy goodness. Jordan Cameron is another injury concern (groin) to be aware of, though if you made the conscious decision to draft him you knew this was coming and you had a backup plan...right?

Ladarius Green is showing signs of a concussion for the second time in a month, so he is one I would stay completely away from in Week 3. With the return of Antonio Gates imminent after Week 4, Green seems like a safe drop if you need help elsewhere. Maybe Matt Jones is available?

Delanie Walker is battling a sprained ligament in his wrist, and it is a bummer given the tasty matchup with the Colts in Week 3. If he succumbs to this ailment for another week, Anthony Fasano will easily enter Top 15 territory.

Finally, the last I will say about Week 3 is that I am done not ranking Jordan Reed among the position's starters. Like many other tight ends, he is injury prone. But if he is playing I am ranking him inside the top 10 every time. My only regret is that Reed will not be a part of my Sunday-only NFL DFS lineups. I joined a few Thurs-Sun competitions just to get some Reed exposure.

Good luck to you all this week. Cheers!
