Last time you heard from me, I was announcing my silver medal in the Yahoo friends and family league.
Since then, I've been detoxing.
While I'm currently playing in 3 Fantasy Baseball semifinals simultaneously, it's time to carve out some quality time with my first Fantasy love: basketball.
So what have you missed in the last few months?
Well, I can't tell you EVERYTHING. But here are some key events...
1. THE APOCALYPSE OF MONEY
The end of the world ended up being a good thing.
With television money being siphoned into sports ad infinitum, basketball players just got a bump. A significant one.
With the NBA salary cap headed for the moon & stars, overvalued players like DeMarre Carroll got PAID. And how.
It's a little misleading though. With NBA salaries about to hit the stratosphere, all NBA starters are gonna start getting paid like previous superstars. The superstars are gonna start getting paid like superstars from the 90s (which is considerable).
So buckle up, and watch NBA economics inflate everyone and everything. For those of you in salary cap leagues, this may be the year to switch to roto...
2. FIBA
The 2015 EuroBasket tournament had strong showings from a few unexpected places: Pau Gasol (named tournament MVP at age 35), Jonas Valanciunas and Danilo Gallinari might be better than expected this season. (As a deep sleeper, let me throw out the recently bought out Anthony Bennett's name. While Bennett clearly didn't impress the T-Wolves, he had a very strong tournament. The kid isn't done. And he'll be dirt cheap in deep drafts...)
3. OLDIES GETTING OLDER
In case you missed it (or ICYMI - like the kiddies type), a few NBA players with big names retired: Shawn Marion, Andrei Kirilenko, Elton Brand. You really shouldn't have been drafting them the last couple years anyway, but now you REALLY shouldn't be drafting them... Thanx for the memories though, guys. Great players with great careers...
4. JOEL EMBIID GOT INJURED AGAIN
Was he your big 'stash' in your dynasty league last year? How does that feel? Personally, I don't trust the guy. Purge him from your rosters. It's possible he never plays in the big league... That's not what the hype says, but it's obviously a terrible way to start a career....
5. THE T-WOLVES OFFICIALLY SCARE ME
They just drafted Karl-Anthony Towns on a team with Andrew Wiggins, Ricky Rubio and the underrated Zach LaVine. When this team finally clicks, they're going to click for a decade...
6. THE LAKERS ARE A COMPLETE ENIGMA
Kobe appears to be healthyish, and #2 overall draft pick D'Angelo Russell joining a healthy Julius Randle gives the Lakers hope (in some circles). I'm not ready to declare them anything beyond mediocre, but bottom-feeders seems to be a thing of the past... Still, it's hard to know how this will all shake out. This is clearly a team building toward a brighter future. But Kobe Bryant never struck me as a player development coach... The 15/16 Lakers are officially the most interesting team to watch this season...
So there's a small sample, folks.
I'll be publishing 2 or 3 times a week all season, so consider this an appetizer for a Bobman buffet of Fantasy Basketball goodness all season...
Don't believe me? I'll tell Joel Embiid to kick your ass.
Give him time though.
He walks slowly these days.
