There are 9 MLB games on FanDuel's Saturday evening slate . The first games begin at 7:08pm with the last one beginning at 9:10pm eastern. Please be sure to check your lineups and of course check the weather to make sure your players are actually playing tonight.
There are plenty of opportunities on Saturday evenings slate and here's what I'm thinking about.
Pitching
For me there are only 8 viable pitching options on Saturdays evenings slate and 6 of them are pitching against each other. This is going to be an interesting night for sure.
Clayton Kershaw ($13,400) and Francisco Liriano ($9,900) square off against each other in the 9pm eastern game and I've won with both pitchers this season. Like everyone else the Pirates have very limited success off of Kershaw slashing .261/.303/.373/.676 and a strikeout rate of 26 percent. Overall against lefties the Pirates have a 23 percent strikeout rate with a wOBA of 307 and wRC+ of 97. Over his last 5 starts Kershaw is striking out 12 per nine with just 5 earned runs over his last 39 innings pitched and has gone 7 or more innings in each of those 5 starts.
The Dodgers on the other hand have had much success against lefties in general and Liriano in particular slashing .330/.406/.545/.951 with 4 bombs and a strikeout rate of a whopping 32 percent. Overall the Dodgers this season have a strikeout rate of 20 percent with a wOBA of .328 and wRC+ of 109. Over his past 5 starts Liriano is striking out just over 10 hitters per nine with 11 earned runs in his last 24.2 innings pitched. Liriano hasn't gone more than 6 innings in any of these 5 starts.
Sonny Gray ($10,200) and Scott Kazmir ($9,700) square off on Saturday night and this one should also prove interesting. The Astros are slashing a paltry line of .237/.273/.311/.584 with just 2 bombs and a 20 percent strikeout rate against Gray. Overall the Astros have a 24 percent strikeout rate with a .315 wOBA and wRC+ of 99 against righties. Over his last 5 starts Gray is striking out roughly 6 per nine with 18 earned runs in his last 29.1 innings pitched and has gone 6 or more innings in 3 of those 5 starts.
Kazmir has found limited success against the current A's who slash a .300/.366/..458/.824 line with a 21 percent strikeout rate. Overall against lefties the A's have a 17 percent strikeout rate with a .304 wOBA and wRC+ of 94 against lefties this season. Over his last 5 starts Kazmir has whiffed almost 8 hitters per nine with 12 earned runs in his last 30.1 innings pitched and has gone 6 or more innings in 4 of those last 5 starts.
Carlos Rodon ($8,300) and Carlos Carrasco ($9,400) also do battle Saturday evening. The sample size is small but Rodon has dominated the Indians who usually do well against lefties with a 19 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .317 and wRC+ of 101. Compare that with the 30 percent strikeout rate they have with Rodon with a .200/.280/.246/.526 slash line with zero bombs. Over his last 5 starts Rodon is striking out just under 8 per nine innings and has given up 8 earned runs in his last 34 innings pitched and has also gone 6 innings or more in each of those 5 starts.
Carrasco on the other hand strikes out current pale hose hitters 24 percent of the time with a .287/.357/.457/.814 slash line. Over all against righties White Sox hitters have a 20 percent strikeout rate with a .309 wOBA and wRC+ 93. Over his past 4 starts Carrasco is striking out almost 13 per nine with 8 earned runs over his last 22.1 innings pitched and gone 6 or more innings 3 of those 4 starts. The only less than 6 innings output just happened to be a 2.2 inning performance against the White Sox.
Cole Hamels ($10,600) has an interesting matchup against a Seattle Mariners team that has a career slash line of .321/.371/..482/.853 with 4 bombs and a 16 percent strikeout rate. Overall against lefties the Mariners have a slightly higher 21 percent strikeout rate with a .319 wOBA and wRC+ of 105. Over his past 5 starts Hamels has been striking out just under 7 per nine innings with 13 earned runs over 35 innings pitched while lasting 6 innings or more in all 5 of his starts.
If you want some value Saturday night look no further than the Phillies Jerad Eickhoff ($5,400) and his matchup with the Atlanta Braves. Over his last 5 starts Eickhoff is striking out just over 7 per nine innings with 13 earned runs in 30 innings pitched and he's gone 6 or more innings in 4 of those 5 starts. The Braves have a strikeout rate of just 17 percent with a .297 wOBA and wRC+ of 85.
Stacking Opportunities for Saturday
The Padres and Rockies are in Colorado and both teams face subpar pitching so you'll absolutely want to take advantage of that contest.
