There are 11 MLB games on FanDuel's Saturday evening slate . The first games begin at 7:05pm with the last ones at 10:10pm. Please be sure to check your lineups and of course check the weather to make sure your players are actually playing tonight.
There are plenty of opportunities on Saturday slate and here's what I'm thinking about.
Pitching
On our top tier Saturday evening we have Madison Bumgarner ($12,600), Jose Fernandez ($10,600) and Noah Syndergaard ($10,500). On the second tier we have Ian Kennedy ($8,200) and Jose Quintana ($7,900) and we have an interesting lower tier option in Lance McCullers ($6,700)
There's a lot to like about Madison Bumgarner tonight. He's striking out nearly 10 hitters per nine innings walking less than 2 and giving up just under 1 bomb per nine innings pitched. These are all good things especially when facing a team like the Padres that has a nearly 23 percent strikeout rate in the month of September. The Padres wOBA of .301 and wRC+ of 92 against lefties is a couple of more good reasons to strongly consider Bumgarner on Saturday night no matter what the price.
I'm not all that sure what to do with Fernandez. His matchup against the here today gone tomorrow Washington Nationals is enticing. It's been a month or more since we saw Fernandez last and what we saw was absolutely devastating. 11 strikeouts, less than 2 walks and barely a fly ball let alone a bomb devastating. We also saw him leave his last start early but the prospects of a strikeout pitcher facing a Nationals team with a 23 percent strikeout rate in September might be hard to let pass by.
Noah Syndergaard is another puzzler. He's been darn near unbeatable at home but on the road is another story. Like 1-5 with a 4.91 ERA and 1.56 WHIP story. The strikeouts are still there no matter where he pitches but he doesn't pitch deep enough into ballgames on the road to get the much coveted 4 points his price tag almost demands. He'll face the offensively challenged Braves Saturday night who roughed him up a bit the last time he faced them so I may have to pass on Mr. Syndergaard on Saturday.
Ian Kennedy has a nice price tag and a decent matchup if it weren't for the fact he's going up against Bumgarner tonight. Kennedy strikes out nearly 10 per nine innings pitched but he makes mistakes with those mistakes eventually killing any value he might have. He's a cheaper option but he'll have you pulling out your hair in this one.
Jose Quintana might ordinarily be a good play tonight but his splits against righties makes me extremely nervous. Righties are slugging .440 with a .338 wOBA against Quintana this season and the Twins have several right handed bats to throw at Quintana on Saturday night. His just over 6 strikeouts per nine innings in the month of September just doesn't offset the 2.97 xFIP during the same period.
Lance McCullers has been solid since his May call up. He's been good for nearly 10 strikeouts per nine but he does walk just over 3 hitters per nine and less than a bomb per nine innings pitched. He's facing an Angels team that struggles but doesn't strike out much (17%) so keep that in mind when deciding on rostering McCullers on Saturday.
Stacking Opportunities for Saturday
Cubs lefties are absolutely in play against the Phillies Jerad Eickhoff. In fact you probably can't go wrong with any of the Cubs in this one as Eickhoff has been terrible thus far this season.
Milwaukee Brewers right handed bats against the Pirates Jeff Locke are also in play. Martin Maldonado ($2,300), Jean Segura ($2,700), Kris Davis ($3,600) and Elian Herrera ($2,400) are all good solid value plays tonight.
Mets lefties against the Braves Williams Perez are a great possibility with Michael Conforto ($3,000) ,Kelly Johnson ($2,600) and Lucas Duda ($3,400) being the primary inexpensive left-handed bats.
Value Picks for Saturday Evening
Anthony Gose ($2,900) has a nice matchup against the Indians Trevor Bauer. Against righties this season he's slugging .403 with a .734 OPS and is also a serious base stealing threat.
Adrian Gonzalez ($3,000) is at a ridiculously low price and hs a nice matchup with the Diamondbacks Rubby De La Rosa. Gonzalez has a .364 wOBA and wRC+ of 134 against right handers this season.
Good luck tonight Fantasy Baseball owner!!
