Roto Roundup: Tulowitzki to Toronto, Castillo Called Up

It's a bit of a truncated Roto Roundup this morning as we let it sink in that (as of 10 PM PST) Troy Tulowitzki will be heading to Toronto. Let's take a look at some of yesterday's top performers.

Troy Tulowitzki Traded?!?!?!

So... I spent the evening out to dinner for my brother-in-law's birthday, with the plan to check out what happened in the games afterward so I could finish this writeup. I didn't get back around to looking at things until after midnight eastern, which is when Twitter went completely nutty. The first news broke a little after 12:30 eastern (I think), and to be honest, I'm not waiting up all night to find out who else besides Jose Reyes is going to Colorado. We'll work on having analysis on the trade tomorrow once we have all the involved players, but it's hard to imagine that any trade being bigger than this one before the deadline.

Roto Roundup

It's really hard to tell what the Orioles want to do long-term with Kevin Gausman at this point, but he showed some of what has been expected since he was the 4th overall pick in 2012. He threw 7 2/3 shutout innings against the Braves, striking out five and walking just one. I think at this point he's definitely one of the Orioles' best five starters, and if he's available you should grab him, as he still has SP3 upside for the rest of the year.

The Red Sox made a minor trade last night, sending Shane Victorino to the Angels for Josh Rutledge. This news doesn't really affect either of those players all that much, but rather is key for outfielder Rusney Castillo. With one more outfielder out of the picture in Boston, I think we now see Castillo for the rest of the year playing right field every day. He went 1 for 2 with 2 runs in his first game back.

Kris Bryant has not been hitting well for most of the month at this point, but put the Cubs on his back last night with a two-run walk-off home run. Hopefully this is a sign that he's coming out of this funk, which has him hitting .155/.254/.362 over the past couple weeks.

Exactly no one saw this level of production coming from Alex Rodriguez as he turned 40 yesterday, but he added another home run in the Yankees' win last night. He's up to 24 on the season, and is well on his way toward 35+ for the year at this rate. He's going to be hurt by position eligibility next season, but it's hard to argue that he won't be able to contribute again right now.
