FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) picks for Friday, July 24: Michael Pineda, Jhonny Peralta, Reds lefties

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Reminder: Always double check the lineup card before rosters lock to make sure that a player you've chosen to roster is playing that day, and check the weather to make sure your players won't get rained out of their game.

Pitcher

Pitching is loaded today. Scherzer, King Felix, Kluber, Archer and to a lesser extent Pineda all throw today, so there are a lot of good options to choose from.

Chris Archer ($10,600) faces an Orioles team in St. Pete that has the 3rd highest K% vs RHP on the year at 22.4%, but also has a top 10 offense by wRC+ vs RHP at 104. Corey Kluber ($11,000) faces a lousy White Sox offense at home that is third worst vs RHP in wRC+, but doesn't strike out as much as the Orioles do. Max Scherzer ($12,000) gets a Pirates offense that has a top 10 K% vs RHP at 20.5% and a below average 94 wRC+. Michael Pineda ($9,600), who is capable of throwing a gem, faces a Twins offense that has a top 10 K% vs RHP at 20.6% and a below average wRC+ at 94.

As of the time I write this, I am leaning toward playing Pineda, because I think he'll be lower owned and his peripherals are fantastic. He also pitches in a much better HR park for pitchers than Yankee Stadium, and Phil Hughes has been getting wacked this year. Pineda also gives a little bit of extra salary relief to spend on hitters.

Stack Reds LHB vs Eddie Butler in Coors

Eddie Butler's platoon splits vs LHB are extremely poor, and that's underselling it. Butler owns a 6.29 FIP/.439 wOBA combo vs LHB in his career. Lefties have a .441 OBP vs Butler and are slugging .584. Joey Votto ($4,500) is worth paying up for based on the park factors and matchup. Billy Hamilton ($3,400) is lethal whenever he gets on base; his problem has been getting on base consistently, and Butler's .441 LHB opp. OBP and 13% BB% vs LHB will give Hamilton an excellent chance at getting on base. Hamilton hit leadoff in the Reds last game, too. The spacious Coors Field outfield will also give Hamilton more room to dink in some cheap hits.

SS- Jhonny Peralta vs Manny Banuelos, $3,300

Peralta is among baseball's best hitters against LHP, and the fact that he's affordable at the SS position makes him one of the better plays tonight. In 382 PA vs LHP since 2013, Peralta has a 147 wRC+ and .225 ISO. I am rooting for Manny Banuelos to have a nice career after struggling through injury issues as a top prospect, but ZiPS projects a below average 4.21 ERA for him the ROS.

Punt play: 3B- Pablo Sandoval vs Justin Verlander, $2,200

Sandoval has been a gigantic disappointment for Boston, but he's still hit RHP fairly well this year with a wRC+ of about 115. He's priced at the minimum and faces Justin Verlander, who has an ERA and FIP both over 6 as he battles his way back from injury.
