There is not much going on during the All Star break for fantasy owners, so a big thanks goes out to Daniel Kelley who is offering our readers his midseason position rankings, posting one position rankings per day. Through Tuesday, he has published his catcher and first base rankings, and you can find them in the links provided below:
Midseason Second Base Rankings
Early Top 100 Hitter Rankings: 1 - 50
The schedule for his midseason position rankings for the rest of the week is as follows:
Thursday: Third Base Rankings
Friday: Shortstop Rankings
To add to his midseason position rankings, I am publishing my early 2016 hitter rankings. Is it too early to think about 2016? For some, I would say yes. Those of us who are still competing for our league championships or attempting to finish in the money, we aren't looking toward 2016 just yet.
But, for others, who have decided to bail and play for next season, they are thinking about 2016 rankings, or attempting to rebuild their teams to compete in 2016 or even 2017. Or, maybe they have begun to focus on fantasy football, and we have you covered there as well.
I have to say the top 50 was a lot easier to rank than the next 50 hitters, for sure. There are a bunch of names between 70-100 who I could rank in any order and would be fine with where they landed. Hopefully it is easier once the season is over.
Heading the hitters ranked in the 51-60 range are two hitters who are currently injured, Rockies outfielder Corey Dickerson and Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco. I believe both will continue to have impact bats when healthy, and my assumption is that both will be healthy to begin the 2016 season.
Also in the 51-60 grouping is Padres outfielder Matt Kemp, who has been a disappointment through the first two months of the season. I think he can have a better second half to end the season with respectable numbers, but if he doesn't, he will fall into the 75 -85 range.
I ranked a few prospects who have either had a cup of coffee or should get a cup of coffee this season, at the end of the top 100 hitters: Rangers outfielder/DH Joey Gallo, Twins third baseman Miguel Sano and Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager. I even added Dodgers infielder Hector Olivera at #101, but really think he will rank higher in the offseason Top 100, but want to see how he performs upon his eventual call up this season.
So, have a look at part two of my early Top 100 hitters for 2016, and let me know who is ranked too high, too low, and who did I miss?
Part two of my early Top 100 Hitter rankings for 2016:
