It's been a strange season so far. Usually we see a few prospects called up here and there, but generally impact talent isn't brought up with such frequency and regularity as has happened this year. I mean, we expected some of these, but all of them before the end of June? These things go in waves, as talent matures at different rates and players are brought up to the majors for different reasons, but it almost seems unheard of at this point to see so much so fast. Look at my top 20 fantasy prospects from the start of the season:
1. Kris Bryant - Called up April 17th
2. Byron Buxton - Called up June 14th
3. Addison Russell - Called up April 21st
4. Carlos Correa - Called up
5. Corey Seager
6. Noah Syndergaard - Called up
7. Lucas Giolito
8. Miguel Sano
9. Joey Gallo
10. David Dahl
11. Jorge Soler - Made Opening Day roster, on disabled list
12. Yoan Moncada
13. Carlos Rodon - Called up April 20th
14. Dylan Bundy
15. Julio Urias
16. J.P. Crawford
17. Francisco Lindor - Called up June 14th
18. Tyler Glasnow
19. Joc Pederson - Made Opening Day roster
20. Jon Gray
That list doesn't even include other top prospects from the top 50 that were called up like Maikel Franco, Kyle Schwarber, Archie Bradley, Aaron Sanchez, Blake Swihart, Yasmany Tomas, and Rusney Castillo. We're looking at the potential for a nearly complete turnover at the top of the prospect list, so let's take a look at what an updated top 10 might look like. I'll be putting out a midseason update next month with more prospects ranked and a bit more information.
Players in the majors right now are not eligible for this list, and only draftees who have signed are currently available. I am also not including Hector Olivera on this list, as I view him as essentially on a rehab assignment right now.
1. Corey Seager (SS/LAD)
2. Lucas Giolito (RHP/WAS)
3. Miguel Sano (3B/MIN)
4. Julio Urias (LHP/LAD)
5. J.P. Crawford (SS/PHI)
6. David Dahl (OF/COL)
7. Jon Gray (RHP/COL)
8. Tyler Glasnow (RHP/PIT)
9. Dylan Bundy (RHP/BAL)
10. Tim Anderson (SS/CHW)
Thoughts? Is there a prospect you think should be ahead of this group?
