Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Team Forecast

Favorable schedules, who has an easy road ahead, who has it tough. 12/21/2015 - 12/27/2015.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Goals Against - a low ranking means they let in lots of goals (Calgary is letting in 3.39 goals against per game, they are ranked #1).

Goals for - the lower the ranking the more the team scores (Dallas is scoring the most goals for per game at 3.38 and is the number 1 ranking).

So you want to face a team with a low GA and a high GF. This is based off this seasons goals for and against, it will be updated as the season progresses to be a larger aggregate of this year.

Number of games this week:
4 games: Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues
3 games: Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets
2 games: Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, NY Islanders, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks and Washington Capitals
1 game: Buffalo Sabres, NY Rangers and San Jose Sharks

Favorable Offensive Matchups:
Colorado Avalanche: two matchups: Toronto and Arizona. Both matchups at home and teams are allowing at least 2.87 goals per game. Add in James Reimer being out for Toronto and Mike Smith struggling and Nathan Mackinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene have a favorable week.
Florida Panthers: Also two home matchups against Ottawa and Columbus both in the bottom 7 in goals allowed. Sergei Bobrovsky is out for the Blue Jackets which means Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Huberdeau and Vincent Trochek have a good chance to notch some points.
Calgary Flames: They catch a break this week with two home games against Winnipeg and Edmonton both allowing at least 3 goals per game, a good opportunity for Johnny "hockey" Gaudreau to score.

Unfavorable Offensive Matchups:
Dallas Stars - 4 matchups which is nice but none of them are favorable, we'll see how the tested likes of Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Jason Spezza do against Minnesota and St. Louis (away) and Chicago and St. Louis (home) all of whom are allowing fewer than 2.39 goals per game.
Carolina Hurricanes - With Jeff Skinner off to a recent strong goal scoring streak, we'll see how it matches up against Washington, New Jersey  and Chicago (all in lowest eleven  in goals against).
Columbus Blue Jackets - 3 road games for the Jackets against Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Florida who are keeping opponents to 2.47 goals against or fewer.

Favorable Defensive Matchups:
Columbus Blue Jackets - On the flip side, their three opponents have been rather anemic on offense with Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay both (surprisingly) continuing to struggle to score. Florida is their biggest threat at 2.69 goals per game, who would have thought this to be the case at the start of the season?
Dallas Stars - Just like Columbus their defense is favorable as St. Louis faces them twice scoring 2.55 goals per game. Minnesota and Chicago are more difficult but Dallas gets Chicago at home.
Winnipeg Jets - 3 games two of which are on the road and back to back but they are all against bottom 16 teams in goals scored. Pittsburgh is the 3rd worst goal scoring team (still weird to say).

Unfavorable Defensive Matchups:
Buffalo Sabres - Very simple. One game against the 2nd best scoring team in the NHL. Avoid Jonas Enroth and anyone who you want for plus minus this week.
Ottawa Senators - Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins both top 13 teams in scoring.
San Jose Sharks - One game on the road against the Kings. The Kings have scored at least 3 goals in 6 of their last 7 games and will have their first home game in 7 games, they will be amped up in a divisional matchup in front of their home crowd at Staples Center.
