Heath drops some Week 9 tight end knowledge.

Tamme spike!
Tamme spike!
Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Last week, Ben Watson (1st), Jacob Tamme (3rd), and Cameron Brate (8th) took advantage of some easy matchups and finished as starting-caliber tight ends.

Tyler Eifert had a very rare dud and finished as the 20th-best tight end despite an exploitable matchup against the Steelers. It was an AJ Green sort of day for Cincinnati. Similarly, it was an Alshon Jeffery day for Chicago, as Martellus Bennett only mustered 32 yards on three catches (five targets). These two highly-owned tight ends were the largest disappointments of the week.

If you were banking on Jason Witten against the Seattle Seahawks, I understand the logic...except for the Matt Cassel part of that equation.

In Week 9 I am showing Jacob Tamme some love as Matt Ryan's acting #2 receiver. He feels slightly safer to me than Benjamin Watson, who continues to take advantage of easy matchups but plays Tennessee this week. Expect New Orleans to attack Tennessee with their underrated ground game, which is essentially New Orleans' strength versus Tennessee's weakness. The Saints should not need to air it out much to win this one, which should limit Watson's chances.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins is the wild card this week. I am ranking him as if he will play, and that makes him a low-end (but high upside) TE1 in my book. Remember, the Giants are atrocious at defending tight ends. And wide receivers. Okay, they are just atrocious in general. Start "ASJ" with confidence if you need a fill-in this week (if he plays).

Ladarius Green and Larry Donnell are both dealing with injuries and seem unlikely to go this week, so they will not make my Top 24. Both would serve as low-end TE2s if they did go.

Here we go with the Week 9 version. The season sure is flying by!
