Week 9 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Rankings - Standard Leagues

With injuries coming to top players, you may be left wondering who to start now. Robert helps you with your decision with his WR rankings for the coming week.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Injuries are starting to play a key role in these rankings. When writing my article on the top performers on Sunday night, I mentioned Steve Smith Sr. tearing his Achilles, and being out for the rest of the season. Well as it turns out, he won't be the only WR missing the rest of the season. Keenan Allen can now be added to that list. In an injury that slipped past me on Sunday, it is just as brutal of a hit for fantasy owners. Allen was a target monster with Philip Rivers, and was a borderline top 10 guy with the volume of work he was seeing. Hopefully your fantasy teams hasn't been hit by too many of these injuries that have happened, but if they have, we have some rankings below to help you stream receivers on a week to week basis. This week we have six teams on a bye week, creating more havoc for fantasy owners. Now let's get to the rankings below, along with some commentary on a few guys.

A.J. Green - While I usually try to stay away from Bengals when they are playing in primetime, I think Andy Dalton has turned a corner this year. In the past Dalton has struggled in primetime games, usually forcing me to rank players like Green lower in that given week. Dalton has proven so far this year however that he is really coming into his own. Green should put up his usual monster numbers on Thursday night.

Jets Receivers - My ranking of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are going off the assumption that Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing. If Geno Smith is the QB, Brandon Marshall slides out of the top 10 to number 13, while Eric Decker would stay at number 11. If Fitzpatrick and Smith are out, both guys would drop down to number

Packers Receivers - We just saw the Panthers defense lock down on the Colts receivers on Monday night. I see the same thing happening this week with the Panthers shutting down the Packers receivers. This is why Randall Cobb and James Jones are taking a hit in the rankings this week. It is at the point where Cobb should be seriously considered for a bench role instead of starting this week. Jones I am always a little wary about starting, so this is just something extra to push him into deeper league starting consideration only.

Colts Receivers - Just like with the Packers, T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief are farther down in the rankings due to the matchup. We saw the Broncos shutdown the Packers last week, and have done that to pretty much every opponent. Now factor in Luck has been, and presumably still is, playing with some cracked ribs, and I want to stay further away from there receiving corps in this matchup.
