Last week Zach Miller took home the award for best tight of the week. But, for the second week in a row I have the same top four, a little different in terms of order, but the same nonetheless. Sure, Zach Miller has scored in the last two weeks, but consider the mini hot streak over. Against a tough Denver defense I think he will put up a goose egg. He's not worth owning for this week and quite frankly the rest of the season.
In this week's rankings I'll talk about three tight ends that have a combined one touchdown since Week 2 and why they will all score this week.
BYE WEEK: Cleveland, New Orleans, New York Giants, Pittsburgh
Julius Thomas hasn't had a good game since Week 6, but that could change. He faces a Tennessee defense that has allowed five touchdowns to tight ends in the last five games, according to ESPN Fantasy. In his last two games he has had five receptions for only 37 yards. The downside to Thomas is that he has to compete with target hogs like Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns. Thomas is touchdown dependent this week, but against the Titans he has a good chance to cash in.
Another tight end that is due for a touchdown is Zach Ertz. He is heavily targeted in this offense and is still looking to cross the goal line for the first time this season. In the past five games, Ertz has seen at least six targets and gained at least 43 yards. With that amount of work is hard to imagine a touchdown isn't in sight. Ertz has been a middle of the road tight end all season, but I think he finally finds the end zone and gives his fantasy owners what they've been craving.
Jason Witten owners could not be more happy with Romo's return. Since his absence, Witten hasn't found the end zone and has put up mediocre numbers. But that ends this week and it couldn't have come at a better time. Dallas takes on Miami, who have been generous to tight ends recently. The Romo-Witten connection should be a constant all game. I think a touchdown would be a nice welcome back present too. Witten is a top-five option this week and should hover around that area for the rest of the season.
