Fantasy Basketball: Power Forward rankings

Top 25 power forwards for the 2015/16 NBA season...

There are 2 better power forwards in the NBA than LeBron James? Really?
There are 2 better power forwards in the NBA than LeBron James? Really?
Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

I went from ranking the shallowest position this year (SG) to the deepest (PF). Due to lots of screwy position designations, power forward is an embarrassment of riches. You could probably take a player outside the Top 25 – and still field a competitive squad.

I will illustrate.

Pinch me:
1. Anthony Davis
2. Kevin Durant
3. LeBron James

Um. So LeBron is the THIRD BEST power forward option? Yes. Talk about DEEP…

Still pretty unbelievable:
4. DeMarcus Cousins
5. Carmelo Anthony
6. Serge Ibaka
7. LaMarcus Aldridge

This is first round talent that you can likely get in the second round. Pay attention to which positions get scooped early in your draft.

Value:
8. Paul Millsap
9. Al Horford
10. Kevin Love
11. Blake Griffin

I’ve seen these guys going lower and lower in drafts – which is crazy, because they’re awesome. Blake Griffin outside the Top 10? Stop the madness!

Risk:
12. Paul George
13. Nikola Vucevic
14. Nerlens Noel

All have first round potential, but also come with considerable risk. Vucevic is probably a safe bet, but the other 2 could be ranked anywhere from #1 - #50 overall. Proceed with caution.

Old reliables:
15. Pau Gasol
16. Al Jefferson
17. Chris Bosh
18. Andre Drummond
19. Derrick Favors

We’re at the end of the Top 20, and 5 more studs are available. Crazy talk.

Not my cup of tea:
20. Draymond Green
21. Rudy Gay

Call me a hater, but I just don’t buy Draymond Green. I think he’d fall apart in any other system. With his new fat contract, let’s see how he responds… Rudy Gay is one of the most overrated players in the NBA, but he’s a decent option in Fantasy. I have a blanket "No Rudy" policy though, so moving on…

These guys are available after #20?
22. Tobias Harris
23. Nikola Mirotic
24. Greg Monroe
25. Dirk Nowitzki

It’s pretty insane the kind of value you can get up to #25. Dirk was a first round pick a couple years ago. And he can still play… Everybody else is a real quality player. If you don’t end up with a quality power forward this season, you’re doing it wrong…

Honourable mention:
Terrence Jones
Aaron Gordon
Julius Randle
Kristaps Porzingis
Tristan Thompson

Injury issues have derailed Terrence Jones’ career slightly, but this man is still a beast. (And only 23 years old!) Aaron Gordon is one of my major breakout candidates for this season. Blake Griffin 2.0 potential. Julius Randle is another guy I really like. Highly touted player last season, he’ll get lots of chances in La La Land. No ordinary rookie… Porzingis was taken 4th overall by the crappy Knicks this season. I’m not expecting much this season, but keep your eye on him… Tristan Thompson had lots of contract drama, but this is still a great young asset with upside. 24 year old future beast. I told you so…

In summation, the power forwards are ready to play this season.

Focus your research on the other positions, because anybody with a thumb can add a great PF this year.
