Three weeks of the NFL season have now been completed, and injuries are depleting the players at some positions. Luckily the TE position has been relatively unscathed, other than Jordan Reed, and now Kyle Rudolph. Yesterday we covered the QB, RB, and WR, positions, so now it is time to tackle the TE's. Below are the top 32 TE's in order for week four, and some added commentary below on a few guys. Now that we have some more game film we can trust more than the preseason, the rankings of players will start to fluctuate more on a week to week basis. As the season continues to progress, the matchups will also start to play more of a factor in these rankings, as some defenses are better matchups than others Without dragging this intro longer, let's dive right into the commentary and rankings.
Antonio Gates - Fell back to earth last week by not scoring a touchdown, but don't worry as he now gets the soft Jacksonville defense. I expect another monster game out of Gates here, as he will score at least once, with 80+ yards.
Niles Paul - He keeps on racking up the yards, and that means something. Paul should be relied on now as a guy who can get 60 yards at least each week, and then have the opportunity to score a TD in the process. Washington plays the Giants tonight, and they haven't been tested yet by a team that has a good TE, so I'm expecting a good game.
Travis Kelce - Each week that I see Kelce make plays, the more I like him. He has all the requisite skills to be a good TE in this league. He is a borderline top 10 guy the rest of the way, and I expect that Fasano won't be poaching too many TD's the rest of the way.
Dwayne Allen - The Colts seem to be leaning more towards Allen in there basic sets than Fleener, something that has been happening the past few years. As the top TE on the Colts, I believe that Luck will help Allen get a redzone score this week.
Jason Witten - I'm real close to just giving up completly on Witten at this point. If he has another disappointing game, feel free to drop him, as the offense is running through DeMarco Murray at this point.
Scott Chandler - If you are desperate to find a replacement for Julius Thomas this week, look no further than Scott Chandler. He has always been a nice redzone target in Buffalo, and last week had over 70 receiving yards. If you are looking for a guy with a decent chance at scoring a TD this far down the rankings, Chandler is your best bet.
