Fantasy Football Week 4 Sleepers: Tony Romo, Donald Brown and others

Ray takes a look at some Week 4 sleepers that could help you win your fantasy matchup this week, including Tony Romo, Donald Brown and others.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

This weekly feature will take a look at some sleepers at each position who could help fantasy teams win their weekly matchup. To determine the sleepers, I will be using the fantasy points allowed at each position statistics, courtesy of AsktheCommish.com.

For week 4, I will use the fantasy points allowed through the first three weeks of the season, so we are getting a decent idea as to which team defenses are allowing the most fantasy points at each position.

Sleeper Performance: Week 3

Before I take a look at our Week 4 Sleepers, here is how my sleepers for Week 3 performed:

QB - Ryan Tannehill vs Chiefs - 21-43, 205 yards, TD, 12 fantasy points

RB - Bobby Rainey vs Falcons - 11 rushes for 41 yards, no TDs, 6 fantasy points

WR - Michael Floyd vs 49ers - 5 receptions for 114 yards, no TDs, 11 fantasy points, 16 fantasy points in PPR

TE - Jared Cook vs Cowboys - 7 receptions for 75 yards, no TDs, 7 fantasy points, 12 fantasy points in PPR

Fantasy Points Allowed: Year to Date

Below you will find a table (courtesy of Ask the Commish) that lists, by team defense, the fantasy points each team defense has allowed to opposing quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. For example, through the first three weeks of the season, the Jaguars defense have given up 72.5 points to opposing QBs, 81.19 points to opposing running backs, and so on.

I have selected my sleeper picks based on the fantasy points allowed through the first three weeks of the season, assuming the trend (allowing more fantasy points) continues.

The teams allowing the most fantasy points are shown in bold in the below table:

Week 4 Sleepers

note: FPA = fantasy points allowed

Quarterback

Tony Romo, Cowboys vs Saints

The Cowboys face off against the Saints at home on Sunday Night football, which hopefully is a shootout. That is what fantasy owners want to see every game, every week, right? Romo has disappointed to date, but he gets the Saints under the bright lights on Sunday night, and should finally have a breakout game against the Saints who are allowing an average of 18 FPA per game.

Running Back

Donald Brown, Chargers vs Jaguars

The Jaguars have the worst defense in the NFL right now, and they are allowing an average of 27 FPA per game to opposing running backs through the first three weeks, so Brown is an excellent play on Sunday.  He has struggled to date, rushing the ball 40 times for 81 yards, but that should change against the terrible Jags defense. In fact, all Chargers offensive players should start on fantasy rosters this week.

Wide Receiver

Golden Tate, Lions vs Jets

The Jets defense has been pretty bad this season, with their secondary giving up almost 28 FPA per game to opponents wide receiver through three games, so Lions QB Matt Stafford, and WRs Calvin Johns and Golden Tate should perform well on Sunday. Tate has yet to reach pay dirt, but that could change on Sunday.

Tight End

Antonio Gates, Chargers vs Jaguars

Yeah, I am going with another San Diego Charger here, With Gates returning from a hamstring injury, and the fact that the Jags have trouble stopping everyone, Gates is a solid start on Sunday. He is practicing in full this week, so he should be ready to go on Sunday.
