Today is my favorite day of the year - no it's not my birthday (although that's in 2 weeks exactly), but it's the NBA Draft. I don't cover any of the draft for FakeTeams, but I will enjoy it tonight, while watching baseball. Unlike usual Thursdays we got quite a few games available tonight at FanDuel, I put together quite a sweet roster today, so hopefully I can win you guys some money.
All players' prices based on FanDuel values.
SP - Doug Fister, Washington Nationals, $8,000 - I feel like we don't use my namesake enough in DFS, he isn't a gaudy strikeout pitcher, but he is very efficient. Tonight he takes the mound against the Cubs, a team that isn't offensively threatening but they do have that one guy who can ruin your night quick. I think Fister is the best pitcher available tonight considering matchup and skill.
C - Alex Avila, Detroit Tigers, $2,500 - Avila had the day off on Wednesday, so I assume he will be playing tonight against the right handed Nick Martinez. Martinez has a good pedigree, but he is only in the majors due to injuries to all the other Rangers starters. Avila is the catcher of choice tonight for two reasons - 1) He is cheap, 2) Martinez struggles against left handed hitting.
1B - Jose Abreu, Chicago White Sox, $4,400 - What can be said of Abreu, that hasn't been said already? He is a monster, and I regret everyday that I traded him for Pujols/Xander in my AL only keeper league. With that being said he heads to Coors Field of the North - Rogers Centre, to take on J.A Crapp I mean J.A Happ. Abreu definitely has the advantage here, and is my play of the day.
2B - Neil Walker, Pittsburgh Pirates, $2,900 - Walker heads to Queens for a four game series against the New York Mets. First on the menu is Daisuke Matsuzaka, a guy who is either great, or bad, or has to run to take a poop after one inning. The Pirates are heating up, and Walker should be right in the middle of things tomorrow, he makes a great value play at $2,900, where he can give us power and speed.
3B - Aramis Ramirez, Milwaukee Brewers, $3,600 - Probably the hottest 3B in baseball right now (not looks wise), he has been on an absolute tear in June. Tomorrow the Rockies come in to Miller Park, a hitter friendly environment and send lefty Christian Friedrich to the mound. Friedrich is a lefty, Ramirez crushes lefties, and has the upper hand in this matchup.
SS - Ian Desmond, Washington Nationals, $3,200 - Desmond is starting to steal bases again, adding more value to his power, it's been a rough for season average wise for him but I expect a nice bounce back in the second half. Tonight he faces Travis Wood, a left-handed pitcher who struggles against right-handed hitters, this is a match made in DFS heaven.
OF 1 - Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers, $4,200 - Another Brewer makes the cut tonight, Gomez has been batting cleanup as of late, and his power/speed combo is always deadly for DFS.
OF 2 - Melky Cabrera, Toronto Blue Jays, $3,700 - If you drafted Melky in your roto leagues you are laughing. He is back to MVP form, and has been very useful in DFS as well. Tonight the Jays are at home, with Scott Carroll taking the mound; a Jay's stack seems very tempting.
OF 3 - Tyler Colvin, San Francisco Giants, $2,400 - This is purely a BvP (Batter Vs. Pitcher) play. Colvin has 7 hits in 19 AB against Mike Leake, including four homers, yes four homers. Colvin is clearly a great value at his price, but double check to make sure he is playing tonight.
As always be sure to check the weather in the city your players are playing in. Don't forget to check lineups either, nothing worse than having a rostered player on your squad that isn't in the lineup
