Week 10 Tight End Rankings

With six teams on bye this week, how shallow does the TE position look? Robert offers you his rankings to help you secure a win this week. Warning, the position gets thin extremely fast.

Otto Greule Jr

This really is a bad week to have your TE on a bye.  A lot of solid starters are on bye this week, and the waiver wire is less than encouraging for assured points.  I'll outline a few guys below that are available in a fair amount of leagues, but once you get past the top 10 the options are not good.  A few guys will step up from the group of mediocre Tight Ends, but trying to determine which ones comes down to matchups and opportunity.  Because a lot of these guys haven't proven much this year, those two factors carry a lot of weight into rankings the players outside of the top ten this week.  Hopefully it works out for those of you that have your TE on a bye this week, as you only need to make it through this one week.   Yesterday we covered the QB, RB, and WR, positions, so now it is time to tackle the TE's.  Below are the top 32 TE's in order for week nine, and some added commentary below on a few guys.  Without dragging this intro longer, let's dive right into the commentary and rankings.

Larry Donnell - Against the Colts last week he didn't look good and had his night salvaged by a late TD.  Eli has stopped looking his way like he did at the beginning of the year, and the emergence of Odell Beckham Jr. has also taken some targets away.  Now Donnell is still rated highly this week, but that is only because he plays against the Seahawks who have struggled trying to defend the TE this season.  After this week expect Donnell to fall down the rankings.

Mychal Rivera - He is probably the highest ranked player that is available in your league.  I wrote in length about Rivera on Monday here, but this week he gets the Broncos who have been susceptible to the TE this year.  Add in the fact that Rivera continually gets more involved in the offense, and he should put up a decent game.

Charles Clay - Now Clay is questionable to go on Sunday at this moment, but was a limited participant on Wednesday.  Monitor his status throughout the rest of the week, but if he does play I think he could put up an okay game.  Tannehill is a little unpredictable right now when targeting Clay, but it has been going up lately.  The Lions are great at defending opposing WR's, so that should force Tannehill to look Clay's way more often on Sunday.

Clay Harbor - Playing against the Cowboys this week, so that is why Harbor is ranked this high.  The matchup is that good and in a group of TE's where they are all similar, this gives him a boost overt the rest.

Richard Rodgers - I don't recommend starting Rodgers this week, but if he gets his looks again like he did in the week prior to their bye week, then he will be a useful TE the rest of the way.  I'm still skeptical about rankings Rodgers any higher than 20 for this week, but that is only because I need to see Aaron Rodgers continue throwing the ball his way.  Because this is the Packers it is possible that he just fit into there gameplan that week, and not in other ones going forward.
