Week 5 DEF/ST Rankings

Should you stream the Rams defense in Week 5? Check out our Week 5 defense/special teams rankings.

John Grieshop

Jacob was busy with mid-terms this week, so I am filling in for him, with the hope I can help you find a defense to pick up off the waiver wire, or stream this week. There are only two teams on bye this week, the two teams who travelled across the pond to play in London last week: the Oakland Raiders and the Miami Dolphins.

The Seattle Seahawks own the best defense in the NFL and they are our #1 ranked defense, going up agains the Redskins, who got shellacked in New York last Thursday night. Redskins QB Kirk Cousins came back to earth last week, throwing four interceptions and now has to face the Legion of Doom, or whatever that defense is called.

We ranked the Bengals at #4, as they travel to New England to face Tom Brady and the Patriots offense that struggled mightily on Monday Night Football in Kansas City. Speaking of Kansas City, it appears kick returner De'Anthony Thomas will be active this week, and he has the potential to take one to the house every time he touches the ball.

Three Defensive Matchups to Stream

St.Louis Rams vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Rams lead the NFL in passing defense and the Eagles rank 24th in rushing offense this season, so this could be a low scoring game on Sunday.

Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers

The Chiefs defense held the Broncos to 24 points in a Week 2 loss, on the road, and go on the road once again to San Francisco. The defense forced Tom Brady into throwing 3 interceptions in Week 4, which doesn't bode well for 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Plus, the aforementioned De'Anthony Thomas should be active this week, so he should help in the return game.

Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers

The Panthers defense is averaging just 18 points per game, good for 28th in the NFL through four weeks, and QB Cam Newton has struggled with the rib injury and isn't making plays with his legs as much as last season.

Matchup to Avoid

Baltimore Ravens vs Indianapolis Colts

The Colts lead the NFL in scoring, averaging 34 points per game while the Ravens pass defense ranks just 24th thus far, giving up 260 yards passing per game, so Colts QB Andrew Luck could keep the Colts offense in high gear.
