We are all well aware of Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure and Mesut Ozil, all of them cost more than 10 million and for good reason. They are all in the top 5 in points amongst midfielders. Obviously we can't stack our team with guys like that, the budget just won't allow it. So, let's take a look at some midfielders that will provide you with similar results at a much lower price.
Adam Lallana
Lallana currently has 104 fantasy points on the season. He is the fourth best midfielder in fantasy so far. On Dec 22nd he cost £6.9, right now he sits at £7.6. That's a huge increase and it's due to his fantastic form lately. He has 2 goals and 3 assists in the last six games for Southampton. In those six games he has amassed a total of 36 fantasy points. The ideal time to have bought Lallana was a few weeks ago when I recommended him as a "START" but it's not too late to get in on the action.
Jack Wilshere
Wilshere has put together three straight very productive games and I expect that streak to continue. He's got 1 goal and 3 assists in those three matches as well as extra points for maintaining a clean sheet in two of those three matches. Arsenal have maintained 10 clean sheets so far this season and I'm sure there will be more to follow. Wilshere is currently fantastic value at £6.3, going up from the previous week when he was £6.2. The more you wait on Wilshere, the higher his price will get.
Kevin Mirallas
Mirallas seems to be hitting some form now after a stretch of awful performances. He now has 2 goals in two straight matches. With Lukaku's last goal coming on December 29th, Mirallas could be where the Toffees look to for goals. He is currently a reasonable £7.2, however, that price might see a slight increase in a few days.
Christian Eriksen
Eriksen is on absolute fire. Tim Sherwood seems to be getting the best out of the Danish playmaker and the Spurs are reaping the benefits. In the past five games, Eriksen has put up a total of 40 fantasy points! In that span he has 3 goals and 2 assists and Tottenham are undefeated during that stretch, winning four and drawing once. For the way he is playing, Eriksen is a bargain at just £7.3.
Aaron Ramsey
Ramsey took the Premier League by storm this season, and then went down with a horrible injury. Well, he's almost back! Ramsey went down on December 26th and he is STILL 3rd overall in points amongst midfielders! The kid has missed almost one full month of action and is still in the top 3! That just shows how good he has been. Since he has been out of action for a while, his price has gone down quite a bit. He is £7.1 right now, before injury, he was as high as £7.6. If Ramsey comes back and picks up where he left off, this could be highway robbery. However, I am skeptical if he will return to his blistering form.
Yohan Cabaye
There are strong rumors surrounding Cabaye and his future at Newcastle. Many sources are linking him with a move to PSG, however, there is a reason why they call it "silly season". For now, Cabaye is a Newcastle player and he is playing at a very high level. Look no further than his 15 point performance on Saturday where he bagged two goals against West Ham. Cabaye has seen his value skyrocket lately, for much of the reason he was hovering around £6.2-6.6. Just a few weeks ago, on Dec 26th, he was £6.6. If you want Cabaye now, you will need to spend £7.2.
Those are the best options under £8.0 that I could come up with. If you have any players on your mind, let us know, let's get some discussion going. Also, let me know if you would like me to do something like this for defenders and strikers as well.
