Every other Sunday, I will be taking a quick look at some of the top prospects at the AAA level, including their stats for for the season, and if anything stands out about the performance. The season stats may not always tell us the whole story, but there are usually also some updates on how they are doing these things as opposed to just the numbers themselves. All statistics are courtesy of Fangraphs.com and are through the games of Friday, 5/17/13.

- I'm honestly curious at what point in the season the Mariners decide to go with Nick Franklin instead of Brendan Ryan, Robert Andino, or even Dustin Ackley. He's been hitting well and it's become abundantly clear that the Mariners are struggling for offense.
- Tony Sanchez was traveling with the Pirates briefly last weekend in case the Pirates needed a catcher to replace Russell Martin. Sanchez has been hitting better, although he still remains blocked by Martin through the 2014 season as well.
- Mike Olt was placed on the disabled list with vision problems, and hasn't played in two weeks.
-
Mike Ferrin and Jason Parks discussed Gary Brown on the Fringe Average podcast this week, and the big takeaway seemed to be that Brown simply isn't making the adjustments needed to succeed at the higher levels of the minors.

- Zack Wheeler was skipped on his turn and sent back to New York for medical tests due to a clavicle injury. The report was inflammation, and should return to the rotation on his next turn.
- I saw Sonny Gray pitch on Thursday night here in Sacramento, and I'll be providing a report on what I saw on Monday.
- Tony Cingrani is returning to AAA Louisville after being optioned to the minors on Saturday. He's not likely to stay down for long in my opinion, as Mike Leake will be on a short leash with Cingrani available. I would still hold onto him if you can spare the roster spot in redraft leagues.
- With David Price going on the disabled list, it's still not clear who is going to take his spot in the rotation, but it sounds like Jake Odorizzi could be the call.
