Coming Soon to A Stadium Near You: Opening Day Assignments

With Opening Day upon us, full season minor league rosters are mostly set, and the season starts this Thursday for all of them. I personally am going to go see Zack Wheeler and Travis d'Arnaud on Thursday night when Las Vegas visits Sacramento for their home opener, and am looking forward to providing a game report early next week for that.

With that in mind, I've made the effort to find out where as many of the top prospects are starting their season. Every effort has been made to verify these assignments, specifically through the use of Twitter (both from players themselves, beat reporters, and other bloggers), press releases from both major and minor league organizations, and through posts done by the team-specific sites here at SBNation as well. I have not relied upon the roster pages over at MILB.com, only because they are generally only updated when teams announce the rosters for the start of the season.

Some specific teams that appear to be extremely loaded with top prospects include Hickory (TEX, Low-A), San Jose (SF, High-A), Daytona (CHC, High-A), Durham (TAM, AAA), Lake Elsinore (SD, High-A), Tacoma (SEA, AAA), Fort Wayne (SD, Low-A), and Wilmington (KC, High-A).

A player where I was unable to find a verification of their assignment at the time of writing (Sunday around 4 PM PST) is notated with an asterisk (*), and a bst guess effort has ben made to place them where I believe they are most likely to be sent. If you find a specific player has since been sent to a different level than I have listed, or has since been verified, please respond in the comments with the information and I will update. In addition, if you don't see a specific prospect listed that you're interested in, let me know, and I'll see what I can find out.

Players with two asterisks (**) are starting the season on suspension, but are listed with their anticipated level once they have served the suspension. Players with three asterisks (***) are expected to start the season on the disabled list, but are anticipated to report to the level they are listed at when healthy.
