Senators' Karlsson Out Indefinitely

Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson will be out indefinitely after suffering lacerated achilles tendon in his left foot in Wednesday night’s loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Christopher Pasatieri

The injury occurred at the end of the second period when Karlsson pinned the puck around the corner boards and Pens forward Matt Cooke stepped on his ankle in pursuit, shortly after which Karlsson's collective fantasy owners probably cried a few man tears.

Karlsson had an out of this world season last year, winning the Norris Trophy as league's top defenseman and finishing with an incredible 19 goals, 59 assists and 78 points last year and making old time hockey fans relive the days of Paul Coffey with the dynasty Edmonton Oilers (way before fantasy hockey was electronic...did they even have fantasy hockey at all back then?)

The Sens have already announced that Karlsson will need surgery, which means that if you own him you might as well throw in the towel because your defense corps. is now a mess...OK maybe not, but a guy I know as kicked the bucket on the season because Jason Spezza's in need of an extended back massage.

Just looking at a replay of Karlsson getting cut, it looks like the early guess is he's done for the year, but reports will no doubt be revealed in the next few days as to exactly how long he'll be sidelined. Stay tuned as players continue to drop like flies.
