Fantasy Hockey: Week Three Top Performers

1. David Clarkson - New Jersey Devils (RW)

Four goals (including two on the power-play) and two assists to go with a plus-2 rating have Clarkson looking like a go to guy. His hot week puts him among the league's top goal scorers with nine on the season, tying him for second overall in that category.

2. Patrick Elias - New Jersey Devils (C, LW)

A goal and six assists (three on the power-play) is what you get when you're on the man advantage with the above Clarkson. Elias is easily good for at least 60 points over a full season, and right now he's got more than a point per game average which although will probably drop slightly over the remaining games is definitely a good thing for your fantasy team.

3. Henrik Zetterberg - Detroit Red Wings (C, LW)

Zetterberg has truly embraced the opportunity to be the team captain this year and it has shown in his play. King Henrik has points in 9 of the last 10 games, and looks like he may match his season total in points from last year (69) in just 48 games.

4. Phil Kessel - Toronto Maple Leafs (RW)

After not scoring a goal in the first 10 games of the season, the Leafs' top gun now has goals in back to back contests and managed six points this past week. He hasn't produced as much as might be expected on the power-play but those numbers should increase now that he appears to have found his scoring touch.

5. Ilya Kovalchuk - New Jersey Devils (LW)

If there's one guy on the Devils you should never be surprised to see on a hot streak it's this guy. Kovolchuk managed two goals and three assists this past week and although he can go hot and cold at times, he scores in bunches and can compete with the best in the fantasy world when he's rolling. Play any top Devils player you own every night right now.

6. Pekka Rinne - Nashville Predators (G)

Although he gave up a softy to Patrick Kane of the Blackhawks on Sunday, the steady Finnish netminder stopped 87 of 91 shots last week and also posted a shutout. There's no doubt he's a premier goalie and will continue to be for years. You're lucky if you got to draft him.

7. Patrick Kane - Chicago Blackhawks (C,RW)

Kane is rewarding fantasy owners who drafted him despite a career-low 66 points last season. Kane's skilled play has led the ‘Hawks to the best record in the league, and he's looking like he'll be close to the 30 goal mark this season, a feat he's only reached once in his career, not to mention it took him a full 82 games back in '09-10.

8. Andy Greene - New Jersey Devils (D)

Easily the most surprising player on this list, Greene had a five game point streak snapped on Sunday (one goal, six assists including four helpers on the power-play). After netting a combined 39 points over the last two seasons, Greene already has eight points in just 12 games this year.

9. Evgeni Malkin - Pittsburgh Penguins (C,RW)

Although his three goals on the year is slightly off of the pace that fantasy owners might demand from this Russian supernova, Malkin has picked up his play of late, picking up a goal and three assists (all via the power-play) this past week. Hopefully for fantasy owners, Malkin can start matching that production level 5 on 5 in the near future.

10. Jamie Benn - Dallas Stars (C,LW)

A short stretch on the sidelines due to a contract dispute is obviously no longer an issue for Benn. The Stars' former fifth round pick had four goals and two assists this past week and he'll be expected to produce at career high levels with a new long-term deal under his belt. So far he's looking poised to prove his worth, and that should make fantasy owners feel at peace with the games they gave up while he sat out earlier this year.
