Must Own EPL Fantasy Players

Clive Brunskill

It's been a wonderful start to the EPL campaign and some unexpected stars have emerged while some newcomers to the league are making themselves known to the EPL community.

There are several players that you simply cannot ignore and if you are looking to have a successful campaign, you would be wise to have them on your team. Let's take a look at some of these fantastic performers.

Aaron Ramsey

The Welsh international has finally emerged and is showing everyone why he was such a highly touted youngster. Ramsey was the unfortunate recipient of a grueling tackle from Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross in 2010. The challenge was devastating and the result was gruesome (click here if you really wanna see the result). That tackle broke Ramsey's tibia and fibula and knocked him out action for almost the entire year. Fast forward a few years and Aaron Ramsey is now taking the league by storm. Ramsey has 8 goals in all competitions so far in this young season. He scored 3 goals in Arsenal's two Champions League Qualifying matches against Fenerbahce. He then went on to score in their opening Champions League group match against Marseille, a goal which turned out to be the game winning goal for the Gunners. In six EPL matches, Ramsey has 4 goals and 2 assists and is quickly becoming one of the best midfielders in the league at the tender age of 22.

Daniel Sturridge

Danny Boy's signature goal dance.

The Chelsea outcast has had no problems fitting in at Anfield and is making Chelsea fans feel blue after letting him walk alone to their heated rivals (oh yeah, I just hit you with a double whammy there, kudos to anyone who gets it). Danny Boy started the season on fire. Literally. He was on fire. Ok, maybe not literally, but seriously, he was on freaking fire. Liverpool won their first three matches 1-0. Daniel Sturridge scored each and every one of those goals. Liverpool then faced Swansea in the infamous Jonjo Shelvey one-man show and Sturridge continued his streak by scoring in the 4th minute of that match (thanks to former teammate Jonjo Shelvey). He was left goalless in his next match but so was the rest of his team and they took their first defeat of the season at the hands of Southampton. He was back last week and this time he had his partner in crime, Luis Suarez with him and they both set the Stadium of Light (Sunderland's home) ablaze. Danny scored one goal, and had himself 2 assists to go along with them, both of which were to Suarez.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu, oh Romelu, where art thou oh Romelu? Not at Chelsea, that's where. Everton are enjoying their lovely new striker and why shouldn't they? He's amazing. Chelsea thought Lukaku would be better off joining The Toffees on loan for the season where he would be able to further develop and play a lot more than he would at Stamford Bridge. Lukaku enjoyed a very successful season on loan last year at West Bromwich Albion and has started this loan spell off wonderfully. In his debut for Everton, he came on at halftime and ended up scoring the game winning goal for Everton in the 85th minute. As he went up for the header he actually got hurt and doesn't even remember scoring the goal. In his next game, he started the match and bagged a brace against Newcastle while adding an assist as well. Lukaku is without a doubt the best striker Everton has and he will be seeing the majority of playing time for them. Get him on your team!

Wayne Rooney

The man is on a mission. Rooney is showing us exactly why Jose Mourinho was going after him so heavily during the transfer market. Rooney has scored a goal in each of Man United's last three EPL matches. He also scored twice and had an assist in United's opening Champions League group match against Bayer Leverkusen. Rooney looks to be playing with a purpose and when he's on form, he can be unstoppable. Right now, he's on form and he looks unstoppable. Plus, he wears a cool hat, and if you have Petr Cech on your team (like you should!) adding Rooney and his new hat will immediately make your team a championship contender.

Mesut Ozil

He only has three matches under his belt for his new club but so far he's looking lethal. There was never any doubt that Ozil would be successful, he is one of the best #10's in the world and moving from one league to another wasn't going to change that. A lot of players struggle to adapt to a new league, but the really special ones don't miss a beat. Mesut is one of the special ones. Don't believe me? In his three matches with Arsenal, he has FOUR assists. He managed to complete an assist hat-trick against Stoke City where he was instrumental in each of Arsenal's three goals, providing all the assists. As I am writing this, Mesut has already scored a goal, and assisted one in the first 15 minutes of the match against Napoli. Ozil is going to quickly become one of the EPL's best players and you should definitely find a way to get him on your squad.

Ross Barkley

The 19 year old attacking midfielder has been highly regarded since he was just 16 years old. Big things were expected from him and clubs like Chelsea saw the potential he had and they tried to snatch him away from Everton on a number of occasions, but Everton knew what they had in Barkley and refused to let him go. We are starting to see exactly why they decided to hold on to him. Ross has enjoyed a wonderful start to the EPL campaign with 2 goals and 2 assists to his name so far. He is being deployed as the furthest forward midfielder in Everton's 4-2-3-1 formation. This position is called CAM (Central Attacking Midfielder) and Barkley has flourished thus far. With a big target man in Romelu Lukaku for him to link up with, Barkley's stock is quickly rising. The best part about Ross is he is still relatively cheap to acquire, although as each week passes his price keeps going up. Right now, he is at £5.3, before the season started he was only £4.5! I'm glad I've had him on my team since the start of the season.

That's all for now. Feel free to list some players you think are must own, or might be on their to way to that status in the near future.
