Thursday Night Preseason Game News: Ryan Matthews, Michael Vick, Julio Jones and Others

The running back many thought was ready for a breakout season in 2012, Ryan Matthews, went down with a broken clavicle and will miss the next 4-6 weeks. Matthews had just one carry for 5 yards before the injury and calling it a night. Ronnie Brown will probably get the bulk of the looks in the Chargers offense with Matthews out. Matthews should slip in fantasy drafts and could provide still be a very valuable RB once he returns.

Redskins new WR Pierre Garcon had 3 catches for 58 yards and a touchdown last night, and was targeted with four of Robert Griffin III's six passes thrown, so this bares watching in their next few preseason games, as Garcon could be RGIII's favorite target this season. Garcon's ADP might start moving a bit over the next week or so.

Eagles QB Michael Vick injured the thumb on his throwing hand last night, but x-rays during the game proved negative. Vick was seen smiling on the sidelines, so he is probably fine, so his ADP should not take a hit as a result of this news. Here is a quote from Eagles coach Andy Reid after the game:

Trent Richardson had knee surgery yesterday and is eyeing a week 1 return. I imagine he will drop a few rounds in many fantasy drafts, and even if he misses the first few regular season games, he could easily outperform many RBs taken ahead of his, as long as he can stay healthy all season.

Falcons WR Julio Jones probably had the best game of any player who played last night, as he had 6 receptions for 109 yards and a 7 yard TD reception. All in one quarter. His draft stock will easily rise before draft day if he can keep this up. He was Matt Ryan's favorite target in their new no-huddle offense last night.

if you are looking for a sleeper WR, look no further than Packers WR Randall Cobb. Cobb had 4 receptions for 58 yards and a score last night, and could provide excellent value as a WR 3 or WR4 in fantasy leagues. Could he be the Jordy Nelson of 2012 and helping teams win fantasy football championships?

Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin sat out Thursday night's game vs the Steelers with a hamstring injury which he suffered in pre-game warmups. He could miss a few weeks and still be ready for the start of the season, but hamstring injuries seem to linger, so draft cautiously.
