Please note: Jason will be on vacation next week, so there will be no posts from him after Friday of this week.

Every other Wednesday I take a look at how some of the top prospects in the High-A leagues are performing. There's an absolute ton of top hitting prospects in those leagues right now, along with some of the game's elite pitching prospects. All stats are courtesy of Baseball Reference, are through Monday's games, and only for the High-A level.

  • Cron may be in the running for the top prospect spot in the Angels' system with last week's trade of Jean Segura, and I have to imagine that at some point in the next year we seem him traded. With Pujols locked in for years and Trumbo floating around as well, Cron could be a nice piece for someone else to have in their farm system.
  • Mahtook was promoted to AA on the 24th, and I'm wondering if we might have a chance of seeing him in Tampa by the end of next season. The Rays are notorious for not moving players through the system quickly, but if he can duplicate his performance in AA I wonder if we might see him start next season at AAA instead.
  • Szczur was also promoted to AA, but I wonder more what he will actually be at this point. Despite being old for the level, he did not show very much power there and I wonder if he is going to show any at all if he gets to the Majors.
  • We still don't have a particularly good idea what George Springer could be. The numbers are eye popping, but it's Lancaster in the California League.

  • Alex Meyer was recently promoted to High-A, and has pitched very well in both of his starts so far. I could see him getting to AA for the start of the 2013 season.
  • Matt Barnes and Jose Fernandez have been rising steadily on prospect lists as the season has progressed, and both seem to me like they could be top 20 prospects at the end of the year. I'm wondering if Barnes might see a bit of time in AA before the end of the year as well.
  • Matzek has been better this year than in the past, but I just don't ever see it coming together for him. The control still remains a huge issue, and I wonder if at some point the Rockies include him in a trade.
