Every week I give pick-up suggestions for leagues that are of the deeper variety. These suggestions aren't for everyone because that would just be dumb. These leagues are usually scrapping the bottom of the waiver wire looking for the week's useful guy or an injury replacement for a few days or even weeks. So turn your attention to the few suggestions I have this week.
Josh Harrison SS/3B Pitt - Carving out a nice little utility role and has now semed to expand on that a little. He has drawn 6 consecutive starts, smacking 8 hits in 22 ab's. The counting stats maybe few and far between but he has some sneaky untapped speed although not yet showing it.
Orlando Hudson 2B/3B - This week is choke full of infielders. Gets a change of scenery and a chance to play everyday with the injury to Brent Morel. The White Sox have some inconsistent options in Eduardo Escobar and jack of all trades Brent Lillibridge is more suited for a pinch runner type deal. The O-Dog may be back or he may have to be euthanised, but if he starts playing the way he used to he could be a useful MI guy for match-up purposes.
Josh Bell 3b Ari - Discarded by the Orioles and picked up for basically nothing. Will be given the keys to 3B in the desert. Minor league numbers were always off the chain, but success at the big boy level has been less then inspiring. Everyday at bats are everyday at bats. Third base is weak and is filled with superfluous guys anyways so he is just another name to add to that fray.
More after the jump.
Yan Gomes C/3B Tor - I put third base here because that's what he has been playing with E5 on the mend but not Dl'd and Lawrie suspended. Adam Lind is not walking back through the door yet and there are plenty of AB's to be had at DH or the off day for J.P. He has shown some decent pop already showing that his minor league numbers may be true to form.
Travis Wood SP CHC - Anytime you see 2 starts and they are against the Astros tonight, and the Padres on Monday, you have to think a little. Still only 25, he came over from the Reds in the Sean Marshall deal. I am not saying mortgage your house here just maximize the stats a little. he is probably a periph nightmare in most cases but could chip in with 5-6 K's a start.
Chris Young SP NYM - Remember this dude, how can you really forget him he's a 6'-10" white guy not named Chris Dudley Takes the second place ribbon for fantasy relevant Chris Young's. He is on his rehab assignment coming back from shoulder surgery. He is a soft tossing WHIP-tard, irregardless he is coming back as early as mid next week. This is a NL- only type thing until further notice. Thanks for reading all the way til there and realizing you're in a AL- only league.
