Moore has been simply dominant at every level of the minor leagues, and many were wondering when he would be called up by the Rays. He is a combined 12-3 with a 1.92 ERA, 0.948 WHIP and a 210-46 K/BB rate in just 155 innings this season in AA and AAA. In nine AAA starts this season, he is 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA, 0.968 WHIP and a K/9 rate of 13.5 and BB/9 rate of 3.1. Moore's performance, coupled with the Rays moving to just 3.5 games behind the second place Red Sox today, probably pushed Rays management to call him up.
The Rays are usually pretty conservative with promoting their prospects, and you can just look to the late call up of outfield prospect Desmond Jennings as evidence of that philosophy.
There is no indication right now as to when he will make his first start, and there is a belief that he will start out in the bullpen. We will learn more tomorrow as to the Ray's plans, but fantasy owners should rush to pick him up if he is available, especially those in keeper and dynasty leagues. That is, assuming he is not already owned.
