The Braves have called up pitching prospect Arodys Vizcaino today, and will use him in the bullpen. In a corresponding move, the Braves waived reliever Scott Proctor to make room for Vizcaino.
Vizcaino has risen in prospect rankings this season after his performance in the midseason MLB Futures game. ESPN's Keith Law ranked him ahead of teammate Julio Teheran in his Midseason Top 50, and here is what he said about him:
Analysis: Vizcaino would have been the talk of the Futures Game if it wasn't for Moore -- electric stuff, great arm speed, better breaking ball than expected. He just needs to stay healthy. Preseason Ranking: 47
Pitching at 3 levels this season, he is 5-5 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.134 WHIP. In his 97 innings pitched, he has struck out 100 and walked just 28 batters. He was recently moved to the bullpen in preparation for a call up this season,. He appeared in 6 games at AAA Gwinnett where he was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. He struck out 8 and walked none in 7 innings of work.
He should be picked up in all keeper leagues, if not owned already, and can be useful in deeper NL-only leagues which require relievers to be rostered.
