The Angels will call up top outfield prospect Mike Trout prior to Friday's game after outfielder Peter Bourjos injured his leg running the bases in last night's game. Bourjos will probably land on the DL as a result.
The Angel's first round pick, and 25th overall, in the 2009 draft had an impressive 2010 season where he hit .341-.428-.490 with 10 HRs, 58 RBIs, 106 runs scored, 56 SBs in 73 attempts, and an excellent 85-73 /BB rate in Low A and High A. Trout was ranked as the #2 prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America coming into the 2011 season.
This season in AA, as a 19 year old, he was hitting .330-.422-.544 with 9 HRs, 27 RBIs, 69 runs, 29 SBs in 37 attempts, and a 60-38 K/BB rate. On Wednesday, he was ranked as the #2 overall prospect in baseball in Baseball America's Midseason Top 50 Prospects. Here is what they had to say about him in their article published on Wednesday:
2.
Mike Trout, of, Angels
In many years, this linebacker-sized center fielder would rank No. 1
Trout, who was selected to play in Sunday's Future's Game, will probably bat leadoff for the Angels and is a must add in all leagues, if still available. He will be the youngest player in the major leagues when he enters tonight's game. Head on over to Halo's Haven for more on the Angels callup of Trout.
