Fake Teams Fantasy All Stars: RHP Justin Verlander

I fired up Fangraphs to see if there was any starter pitching better than Roy Halladay this season, and believe me, I looked hard. I initially chose Roy Halladay, but then looking down the list I sawTigers starter Justin Verlander. Verlander is actually having the better season, if you can believe it.

Humbled Fan named Cole Hamels as the LHP Fantasy All Star yesterday, and his job was a bit harder, I think, with CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw having excellent seasons. My search was limited to Halladay, Verlander, and maybe Jered Weaver, but Verlander and Halladay are having better seasons. What made the decision easy for me was the fact the Verlander has been more dominant this season.

Verlander won his 12th game of the season yesterday, and is now 12-4 with a 2.15 ERA, an insane WHIP of 0.87, and 147-31 K/BB rate in 151 innings pitched. He has given up 2 runs or less in each of his last 9 starts, and 1 run or less in his last 7 starts. He leads the AL in innings pitched and strikeouts, and is second in wins and complete games.

Oh, and there is that no-hitter he threw back on May 7th against the Toronto Blue Jays.

UPDATE: added a poll question.
