Fantasy Player of the Day: Dodgers Outfielder Matt Kemp

Last season, Matt Kemp had what many consider a down year as his triple slash line dropped from .297-.352-490 with 26 HRs, 101 RBIs and 43 SBs in 2009 to .249-.310-.450 with 28 HRs, 89 RBIs and just 19 SBs, and he was thrown out 15 times. There were many theories to his slide going from him dating singing star Rihanna to his bad relationship with manager Joe Torre and some of his coaches. He was benched for 3 games last year for his terrible base running and defense in centerfield.

This year, he came to spring training in great shape and with a positive attitude. Manager Joe Torre decided to step aside and allow Don Mattingley his first shot at managing. In addition, the Dodgers hired first base coach Davey Lopes who just happens to be great friends with Kemp's agent Dave Stewart. All things were lined up for a bounce back season for Kemp.

After his Saturday afternoon effort which saw him go 3-5 with 2 HRs, including a game-tying grand slam in the 8th inning, and 6 RBIs, Kemp is hitting .318-.395-.596 with 15 HRs, 46 RBIs and 14 SB in 17 attempts.

He is now second in the NL in HRs behind Reds outfielder Jay Bruce, tied for first in RBIs with Bruce, and is tied for 5th in SBs. He still strikes out plenty, but he is having his best season of his career. He is on pace for a 41 HR, 126 RBI and 38 SB season.

Can he go 40-40 this season?
