Coming into the 2011 season, Asdrubal Cabrera was not one of the top shortstops taken on draft day, but he is making fantasy owners pay for that. Of course, no one knew he would have a breakout season this year. His career high in home run for one season was 6, RBIs is 68, runs scored is 81, and SBs is 17, but based on his performance to date, he will exceed his career highs in all 3 categories.
Cabrera went 4-6 with 3 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBIs. For 2011, he is hitting .306-.360-.534 with 10 HRs, 39 RBIs, 37 runs scored and 7 SBs. According to ESPN, he is on pace to hit 31 home runs, drive in 119 runs, scored 113 runs and steal 21 bases. That kind of season would put him in the top 2-3 shortstops in baseball, and he is outperforming all shortstop this far in 2011.
I don't see him continuing at this pace, but a 20 HR, 80 RBI and 15 SB season would be terrific for Cleveland, as well as fantasy owners.
