Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta had a very good 2008 season which saw him hit .264-.390-.505 with 18 HRs and 65 RBIs, and found his name atop many fantasy catcher rankings. But since then, has not been a very good hitter. The Rockies have tried to give him the everyday job a few times, but he has not grabbed the bull by the horns as his performance at the plate has been less than desirable. This year, the Rockies handed him the starting catcher job even after his horrible 2010 season, which saw him hit .197-.318-.383 with 9 HRs and 27 RBIs.
Iannetta has always had a solid eye at the plate, as he has a career OBP of .355. If he could repeat his 2008 season, he would be a top 5 fantasy catcher. Well, if he could put together a few nights like last night, he could jump back into the top 5.
Iannetta went 4-5 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs last night. With that effort, Iannetta is hitting .242-.380-.469 with 7 HRs and 22 RBIs. I have a feeling Iannetta may not be with the Rockies next season as their young catching prospect Wilin Rosario is hitting well in AA this season.
