Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez is one of the more unsung starting pitchers in all of baseball. He pitches for a struggling Astros team, but has the 26th highest WAR, 20th lowest ERA, and 26th highest K/BB rate since 2009 amongst all starting pitchers, but you never hear him mentioned as one of the top 20 starting pitchers in baseball. But, he is letting his pitching do the talking for him.
On Tuesday, Wandy-Rod pitched a gem, but had nothing to show for it, as closer Mark Melancon gave up a game tying HR to Brian McCann with two out in the 9th inning. He gave up just 5 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 8 shutout innings on Tuesday and is now 2-3 with a 3.45 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and 47-13 K/BB rate. He has 4 starts this year where he has given up one run or less with one win and 3 no-decisions to show for it.
Felix Hernandez says keep your head up Wandy. Your performance on the mound speaks louder than words.
