Minor League Monitor - South Atlantic League: Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and Jameson Taillon Living Up To The Hype

Bryce Harper - Nationals RF DOB: 10/16/92

The phenom gave Nationals fans a bit of a scare by getting off to a slow start to his pro career but has been a beast lately and could be in line for a promotion. After a 4-5, 1 HR, 5 RBI performance today, Harper's season line is .396 AVG, 11 2B, 8 HR, 30 RBI. Harper is the top hitter in the league and should be in a league that will test him more.

Manny Machado - Orioles SS DOB: 07/06/92

Machado and Harper may be among the youngest players on the diamond but they have grabbed the league firmly by the cracker jacks. Machado ranks 4th in the circuit in OPS with 1.062 and an excellent 19/14 BB/K ratio. Machado

Anthony Ranaudo - Red Sox DOB: 09/09/89

The 2010 first rounder is off to a great start to his pro career. In 27.1 innings he has 5.6 H/9, 3.6 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9. Ranaudo could work his way to the high minors this season if he continues to pitch like he has.

Manuel Rivera - Red Sox SP DOB: 09/01/89

Ranaudo isn't the only top pitching prospect in the Sally League, Manuel Rivera gives the Red Sox another promising arm. Over 34 innings in 7 starts Rivera has 11.4 K/9, 1.6 BB/9 and 7.4 H/9.

Jameson Taillon - Pirates DOB: 11/18/91

Taillon got off to a late start this season but is tearing up Sally League hitters. In 3 starts he has a 1.64 ERA with 11/2 K/BB and .205 opposing average.

Roman Mendez - Rangers SP DOB: 07/25/90

After being lit up in his South Atlantic debut last season, Mendez is on fire to start the season there. In 7 starts he has pitched 36.1 innings with 33 Ks and a 2.23 ERA.

Jon Schoop - Orioles 3B/SS DOB: 10/06/91

Schoop is being transitioned into a third baseman now that Machado is in the Orioles system. He is struggling in the field but has done well with the bat posting a .318/.369/.496 triple slash. Schoop will have to continue to hit since he is unlikely to be an above average defender and will need to make the majors with his bat.

Jurickson Profar - Rangers SS DOB: 02/20/93

The Rangers multi-million dollar international signee is on the surface struggling at the plate this season with a .200 AVG after tonight's game. However, of his 16 hits 9 are for extra bases and he has 13 walks to 14 strikeouts with a perfect 3 for 3 on the bases. When Profar's BABIP recovers he should see that AVG rise along with his dropping prospect status.
