I am in last place in one of my NL-only leagues, mainly due to the poor performance of my pitchers, and some rough starts for my hitters. But one thing I had too much of was speed. My outfield consists of Joe Tabata, Matt Kemp, Andrew McCutchen and Drew Stubbs. So, I had some speed to deal for a starting pitcher.

Last week, I posted on the league site the availability of Andrew McCutchen or Drew Stubbs in a deal. I specifically stated in the post that I was looking for "top of the line" starting pitching. What follows are some offers I received the same day:

"Are you interested in Derek Lowe or James McDonald?"

"Matt Cain and Cody Ross for Andrew McCutchen and Hiroki Kuroda"

"Madison Bumgarner for Andrew McCutchen"

I responded to the first one asking if he would make that deal. I rejected the other two offers on the site. Then, I got this offer late Sunday night:

The offer and my analysis after the jump:

Andrew McCutchen

Drew Stubbs

John Axford

Tyler Greene

Chris Denorfia

for

Joey Votto

Chad Billingsley

Seth Smith

Ben Francisco

Juan Uribe

The original offer did not include Axford, but this is the offer I accepted. I get a solid starting pitcher back and Joey Votto for Stubbs and McCutchen. The other owner wanted speed, so he got two guys who will provide that, along with some pop. I had been asking him to deal me Votto for a few weeks. And he kept asking if I would deal both McCutchen and Stubbs. Initially, I said no. But this offer I had to accept.

With this deal, my team is pretty much all power hitters and starting pitching:

Here is my staff after this deal:

Clayton Kershaw

Chad Billingsley

Hiroki Kuroda

Daniel Hudson

Jhoulys Chacin

Jonathan Niese

Edinson Volquez

Eduardo Sanchez-my only closer

Matt Lindstrom

I am currently last in ERA and second to last in WHIP, middle of the pack in wins and strikeouts, and third to last in saves. Losing Axford doesn't hurt me much, as I can only drop two points. But with the addition of Billingsley along with the rest of my staff starting to perform better, I think I can more than makeup the difference in ERA, WHIP, Ks and wins.

I may lose a few points in steals, but I still have Kemp, Tabata and and Roger Bernadina to help stop the bleeding a bit. Getting Votto in the deal was the clincher for me. To me, he is the best hitter in the NL right now, and maybe all of baseball.

How did I do in this deal?
