Wilmer Flores - Mets SS DOB: 08/06/91
The 19 year old shortstop out of Venezuela ranks 7th in the FSL with 36 hits and his 7 doubles puts him 15th.. Flores has the potential to be an above average power threat at shortstop. He is still very young but and a few years away from the majors but you have to be impressed with the results for a player his age.
Shelby Miller - Cardinals SP DOB: 10/10/90
The Cardinals prized arm is mowing through the competition, he has a league leading 49 strikeouts, 10 better than the next competitor.
Jonathan Singleton - Phillies LF/1B DOB: 09/18/91
Singleton has yet to show much on the scoresheet with only a couple of doubles and a home run on his extra base hit resume. He is batting .314 but that can be attributed to his .447 BABIP. He is striking out more than 30% and has yet to find his groove in High-A. Still, as the youngest player in the league he has plenty of time to re-discover the success that made him a top 50 prospect.
Jarek Cunningham - Pirates 2B DOB: 12/25/89
I expect to hear a lot more about Jarek Cunningham in the coming years. Drafted out of high school in the 18th round of 2008's draft, Cunningham excelled in his Gulf Coast League pro debut, hitting for power and average. A torn ligament wiped out his entire 2009 season but he returned in 2010 to post some impressive power numbers for a young two bagger. Cunningham has kept the power coming this season with 10 2B, 4 3B, 8 HR. That's 22 extra base hits in 27 games. He has yet to learn to command the strike zone and it is reflected in his 5/23 BB/K ratio. Jarek has the potential to turn into a Dan Uggla type if he is able to stick at second and hit for plus power.
More FSL notes after the jump...
Jae-Hoon Ha - Cubs CF DOB: 10/29/90
Jae-Hoon Ha is hitting well in 2011. He has 8 doubles and 6 home runs already and an AVG of .317. He will need the power to continue if owners can expect him to be anything more than Martin Prado type of hitter. It works in fantasy at second base but not so much in the outfield.
Matt Harvey - Mets SP DOB: 03/27/89
Matt Harvey has been the FSL's top pitcher so far. He has compiled a 4-1 record with a 1.10 ERA and 39 Ks in 32.2 innings.
Hak-Ju Lee - Rays SS DOB: 11/04/90
The Rays have to be happy with what Lee has shown them so far. He is batting .414 with 10 extra base hits.He also has 7 steals in 10 tries and a 9/17 BB/K
Julio Rodriguez - Phillies SP DOB: 08/29/90
The tall Puerto Rican youngster is making sure he will be ranked high on prospect lists at the end of the year. Rodriguez has a 5-0 record with 1.67 ERA and 33 Ks in 32.1 innings.
Aaron Hicks - Twins CF DOB: 10/02/89
Hicks has struggled this year, hitting .216 and 2 SB to 3 CS. He has little power and his speed isn't blazing. His OBP abilities are impressive but that puts him at the mercy of BABIP and a string of bad luck can make his numbers ugly. I prefer not to rely on players like this in fantasy as the limited upside for power and steals makes it not worth the chance of an unlucky BABIP.
Jeurys Familia - Mets SP DOB: 10/10/89
Familia has re-discovered his control in his second shot at the FSL and it is paying dividends. The 21 year old hurler has a 1.49 ERA and striking out 8.9 batters per 9 innings. He has given up only 21 hits in 36.1 innings pitched.
Kyle Jensen - Marlins LF DOB: 05/20/88
Jensen could be in the middle of a breakout season at 23. He already has 8 doubles and 9 home runs and is hitting a spiffy .370. Chances are it's an extended hot streak to start the year but it's worth noting his success.
